Best Case for the Esteem

I'm trying to figure out which case to get along with my Esteem. I carry my phone in my pocket primarily and am atm stuck between the Trident Kraken and the Body Glove with kickstand but am open to other suggestions.

Also what's your views on using a screen protector? Is one really necessary since the phone has Gorilla Glass?

I'm just using a normal Gel case, I've had no problems with it yet.. As for screen protector, I would get one. I wouldn't want anything to get on the original screen, that'll mess it up. Even if it is Gorilla Glass.

If your planning to get a extended battery i would wait till you get it first then shop for case.

I also use a gel case but only because I am not a dropper. If I were prone to dropping my phone (like my wife lol) I would look into an otterbox or a trident.

I wouldn't say I'm "prone" to dropping my phone but I have dropped my Optimus several times on accident without a case and luckily it still works fine other than the freezing which it was doing even before the first drop. I'm paying too much money to have the Esteem break or even get a scratch. The Trident does look more stout and covers more than the Body Glove but my worry is that it will interfere with the sensors. It also safeguards all the phone's holes so nothing gets in them (get out of le gutter!). I also just noticed that the Trident includes a kickstand as well integrated into the case instead of the Body Glove's removable belt clip/stand that is loseable. On top of that it comes with a screen protector. This totally takes the Body Glove out of the question.

I'm going to see how the stock battery does before spending the money on the extended one.

actually to be honest the battery for me was pretty good but then again im not a hardcore cellphone user that has to update his facebook status every 15 min you know what im saying lol

Well . Sry I'm very hardcore xd ; always checking forums , helping people , Constant texting , always searching through the internet for information and news , downloading and exploring what's new , not a phone gamer but sometimes let my friends play game on it. Often streaming music and also watch live sport channels !!. Many calls throughout the day , checking on my favorite pictures , not a fan of Facebook that much but often checking for msgs, receiving picture thorough mms , always txts , seldom records and picture takings , check for shopping prices , check for electronic stores special deals , almost every minute i check the community forums like this one and others , always Google , always see something on YouTube , most of the time I test my internet speed wherever I go , once in a while I perform benchmarks , most of the time I chat with many colleague and brothers with whatsapp (waiting for bbm to be release to android and iPhone) , since I'm part of chorus and listen and stream music through Google music , I record various important lectures and clips , check for new apps , also testing out new theme mods and stuff , check for weather and the future conditions , I always look at my phone because its gorgeous !!! , always look at the time , rarely do some convertion with this app I have , sometimes I video chat , check my emails and schools notifications , stream Pandora or slacker , and more txts , most of the time look for location in maps , rarely watch some tv shows and most of time animes , upload pics to Facebook and friends , and many more ! ... etc this is basically a example of what I do daily.

I supposed this is why I got a smartphone to avoid using the pc( I have a high end pc BTW) to do trivial stuff that you could do on our current phones and that is one reason why I would like to see more new phones with huge capabilities and performance that lets us just do ANYTHING without any worries (even tho the esteem already does, but as time passes every software will be requiring more power)

Now tell me , what you can NOT do on your smartphone and would like to see it in a smartphone ?

I'd rather use a controller like the Gametel bluetooth gamepad, which is made for Android.

Gametel

Very interesting but apart from android and Ipod games i also use emulators and it requires the use of analog sticks which is why the ideal controller would be the playstation 3 dual shock 3. It already has a micro usb port to plug in when you need to recharge. Now if someone could make it plug into the esteem with a micro usb to micro usb cable and make all buttons functionable i would be in heaven.

Sorry to derail but.... there's an app for that: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller

There's also a free compatibility checker apps just look under similar apps :)

To keep it going I recently ordered a black body glove case can't wait to get it :D

trident aegis.

I have an aegis for my nook color and it has been great so I didn't hesitate when I found out they were available for this phone. It's a great case that protects the phone and imho makes the controls easier to work than with the bare phone.

What's better about the Aegis than the Kraken?

I have the aegis, not the kraken, but from what I've read it seems the kraken would protect better but seems more bulky. If you need more protection than the aegis provides you are pretty rough on your phone. (The kraken also has the stand)

(The kraken also has the stand)

That was a big reason I was looking at the Body Glove first then once I realized the Kraken had a built in stand it ruled the Body Glove out. The phone's going to be used a lot at school for watching movies since I have free time between my classes so a kickstand would be nicer than holding it or laying it on the table.

Not rough on my phone but I do have a fear of dropping it and damaging it.

I've had the Kraken for a couple months. You can pretty much run it over with a truck, but it takes 15 minutes to get it out of your jeans pocket. It defines the word "brick". And the holster broke in like a week. No worries on drops though...

I don't have a Kraken; if Iam not wrong, it has a stand on it. About the protection I am almost sure they are about the same quality. I have a silicon one from Metropcs, a Trident generic from ebay for $ 8.99, and the last is Aegis. I measure this one has the thickness 0.6-0.7 inch. It is Not too big to be true at all since originally, the esteem is not a small phone.

I think that this is the most bad ass case in the world!!!

LOL.

all jokes aside I'm planning on getting this:
edit: I read that the ZAGG screen protectors are sticky when you slide your finger and thats the only reason why I want a screen protector is because I hate how my fingers dont slide that well so I'm getting this.

I will never buy a bulky case ever again. I had an otter box before I had this phone and I love it. Especially because it came off my motorcycle mount while I was going about 45 and never even had a scratch. BUT, it took an hour to get it in and out of my pants! On top of that, whats the point of having a sexy phone like ours if you just going to cover it up with a bulky piece of rubber and plastic?

PS: dont try buying them all so I wont be able to get one :D

There's no need for the screen protector. Not having one is the whole purpose of Gorilla Glass ;)

read my re-edited post. I said that the only reason why I wanted a screen protector was because of finger prints and most importantly the ease of sliding my finger. I remember my brother use to have a zagg for his iphone and I hated the way it felt so sticky.
My fingers only slide well when they are bone dry and that hardly ever happens since I sweat alot... ;)

I believe I'm going to go with a Mobi Crystal hard case so I can show off the sexiness of the Esteem while still protecting it and not having to spend 30 minutes getting it out of my pocket. I've had a similar clear case on my iPod Touch and I've been impressed with how well its worked. Also going to get a screen protector to keep in reserve for when the original one gives up.
