Best current AT&T android device?

Well for one better Rom options after root because the bootloader isn't locked also you can use Android to an optimized level as Android isn't optimized for dual cores

I see. Yeah I had heard that might be a problem. Didn't look into it really (well I guess I am now with these questions, eh?). I'll have to give the inspire a look when I drive by the AT&T store.

Also any other pros/cons would be nice.

The screen of the inspire is awesome the size is great. The build quality is excellent as well. If you keep.it stock sense destroys motoblur. HTC notification bar is better and there social and contact integration OS second to none

I have BOTH phones that are primarily mentioned here.

HTC Inspire 4G
Motorola Atrix 4G

In all honestly, stay away from the Atrix.

Atrix Pluses:

Dual Core
Laptop Doc
nVidia Chipset

Cons:

Motorola Blur
Horrible reception (I swapped mine out for 3 and still have issues)
Sound quality. Well, on this phone, it's an Oxymoron.. there is no quality to the sound. They know this is an issue and are working on an update, but no idea when that will be. (see above, all of the ones I have had came with this issue)
Laptop Doc ($500?)

I use my Inspire for my daily phone. I love it and the only real complaint I have at the moment is that there is no FFC... Other than that, it's golden!

I choose Atrix over inspire. Not sure what problems the inspire has but eveyone I know that got one returned it.

I have a friend that loves his and have been in contact with others who enjoy theirs as well. I wonder though.. I've heard issues with Atrix too. Oh well, I'll continue my research up until next Wednesday.

I love my Inspire. Unfortunately, I am a fickle lover, and am now scheming on how to get my paws on the Sensation. But in my opinion, the Inspire is the current best ATT choice. It depends on what is important to you. If you can't live without video chat, go with the Atrix I guess. But I love HTC Sense, and enjoy watching anime on my huge screen.

Ha i love anime as well. Video chat? Welll no. Don't have anybody to chat with anyways. Even if I did it's not important.

I guess ill be the only one to say the captivate. the top 3 are definitely the atrix, inspire, and captivate. i hate motorola phones and thus the atrix though i know not everyone is that way. i also dont like sense and the small internal storage of the inspire, and i dont like the screen either. i wouldnt trade my captivate for any phone available right now on att, especially the newer ones that dont have the bugs the older ones had

If you are willing to go unsubsidized def Nexus S hands down.

I could not agree more.

That said, of the current "across the counter models" here are my top two.

1) HTC Inspire 4G

2) Rooted and highly optimized Captivate running ver 2.2

I'm so impressed with each of these it's a tough call as to which is my favorite.

Until I did this last bit of customizing on the Captivate, my Inspire was quite a bit faster. However with some last minute mods, the Captivate is nearly it's match.

At the end of the day, only because I'm such an Android addict at this point, it's the Nexus S I'm really looking forward to.

I got an Inspire for my girl, and (3) of my co-workers have them...we've all noticed considerably weaker reception (in both bars and dBm levels) than other AT&T phones. FWIW, my T-Mobile Defy gets 2-3 bars and 15-20dBm better HSPA signal, on AT&T, than the Inspire. Other than that, the phone seems fine, at least running on wifi, and serving as wi-fi hotspot. Battery is lasting 4-5 days, sans carrier signal, as my girl is just using it to play Angry Birds. Sense is really nice, build quality is solid, screen looks good...I just wish it had better reception. Given all the other HTC phones I've experienced, which also demonstrated lesser reception levels, when in the presence of other phones on the same network, I don't have high hopes for the upcoming Sensation.

The atrix may have the inspire beat on hardware, but with a phone as buggy as it is, that may not matter. I've had mine for almost six weeks.

1). It constantly locks up and reboots when trying to unlock. If it doesn't reboot, the unlock function is slow to respond at best.

2). Wifi issues constantly. Even with the Wifi sleep policy on "never" and within 2 feet of my router, the wifi signal will completely drop. I will be in the middle of streaming media or downloading an app and will have to wait for the network to reappear. I've tried it on multiple networks and have found the same result.

3). Battery life - I know there are a lot of people getting decent battery life out of these, but I'm rarely able to make it through a work day without having to plug it in... even after the recent firmware update. I've got my screen on the lowest possible light setting, everything is off. I even downclocked the processor when I had root. Which brings me to point 4.

4). Locked down firmware/no more root. Can't load roms... cant get root after firmware upgrade. Motorola is notorious for this. It sucks.

5). Cheap materials in the build. Back of the phone is a flimsy plastic cover. it makes the phone feel much cheaper in your hand compared to the build quality of the inspire.

I'm going to be selling mine on ebay and getting the Inspire. I've been very dissapointed. Motorola should stop messing up android with motoblur and concentrate on hardware and drivers. Atrix would be incredible if that were the case.

totally agree, all this crap put on by the hardware makers just bogs the system down and causes unforeseen software glitches. Add your crap as a launcher in the market and leave android pure it would be so much better that way

Well. I can upgrade today (april 20th) and I will be doing so after class (9-4 D: ) and after I get my hair did. I can't wait :D

Oh. I'm getting the Inspire

"hair did"...

what are you taking the inspire out on a date after you pick her up??? no funny stuff on the first date!
