Best DUAL SIM android phone?

The saga continues with the elusive V350

Been advised by Amazon (I pre ordered) that the delivery date would not be the 16 August as they stated, the item is temporarily out of stock - WTF!

Have since been sent an update stating that it will now be scheduled for delivery between 8 Sep and 29 Sep !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is shocking, maybe they have found some issues with the phone (Viewsonic that is) and that has led to these constant slips in release dates. I am getting very frustrated.

If they are not careful, they may well find some other major manufacturer beats them too it which means there head start is useless and the phone will die a natural death before its even been given a chance!! Risky I say.

I know Motorola are releasing an Android Dual Sim in the Autumn.........that gives VS a min of a month to get things going. No disrespect to VS, but most people would go with a stronger established brand as opposed the new guys (VS in this case).

Lets see what we have about the dual-sim android phones:
  • Gigabyte G1310/G1317: seems to have bad sound quality and the battery lasts 1 day or less.
  • Viewsonic V350: vaporware as will_wonka explains :D. The phone is delayed and delayed a bit more.
  • Lenovo A60: the newcomer which seems perfect, except that is has no Android market. Maybe with a custom rom as EtoTalk.com states?
  • Motorola XT531: announced, but not available yet. Furthermore, dual sim version only available in Asia. So careful not to buy the single-sim version.
  • FET T8888. Yeah, what's up with this phone? For sale for $299. The official website of the FET T8888 is actually quite funny to read. They seem to have an honest customer review in it noting that the camera is not perfect and the battery lasts 2-3 days. I like China ;).

Edit: just added the XT531 and FET T8888 to the wiki as well.
Hi wonder if anyone know about this phone ? the specs is almost the same as V350 and [FONT=&#26032]Foxconn OEM :)

It seems expensive: 225 GBP + VAT (~20%) wll be more than 300 euro. But at least you will have a dual sim :D.

The other downside I see is that these "Muchtells" could be the first batch of Viewsonic V350s which did not pass the quality test. So these phones could include the reason why Viewsonic delayed their phones a few more months. It also seems strange that Foxconn wants to risk its position of making stuff for Western factories by selling unbranded Viewsonics. On the other hand, it's totally normal in China to make a few more copies of a design and sell them as your own, so who knows?

MUCHTEL A2 ????

feel like buying this if the wait for V350 is too long :(

You should definately make sure it can be returned, because one part of the ad states that it's quad band while another says "Frequency : 900/1900/2100Mhz". Is that what you meant by "almost?"

Specs being "almost" the same indicates that it's not the same. IOW, it's an immitation from a different factory.

.
I was getting impatient and almost opted for an FET8888 which has a similar spec, alleged better battery life but has no UK / Euro support! For $399 it seems pricey but is no more than the VS will be and has a 3.8 inch screen to boot.
The phone is $299 now. Could you explain why the FET T8888 has no "UK / Euro support"?

What I could figure out is that is does support the 3G 2100MHz frequency used in Europe, but that the charger is in US style. So you have to buy an extra micro-usb charger with ~230V. Furthermore, it seems to be in use in France and Germany.

The FET T8888 seems more and more like the phone to buy. Especially the Qualcom processor, the 512MB RAM, the extra battery and the screen I like.

Edit: Just ordered the phone. Will post my experiences when I have played with it.

The T9199 seems interesting: Touch T9199 oboe 3G WCDMA Android 2.3 MTK6573 CPU, 4.0inch multi-touch, Dual sim cards standby, GPS, wifi_MOBILE PHONE_Wholesale Retail Mobile Tablet PC GPS CAMERA MP4 - Chinese mobile phone - $294.00

Looks interesting. The photos seem not to be from the actual phone though. It has Vodafone and 8.0MP on it.

Finally some phones which are available :).

I think the pictures are of the phone. It is not uncommon that at the Chinese dual sim phones are HTC / T-Mobile / Vodafone branded and have wrong mega pixel printet on them...

Actually you just need a 2 dollar adapter for the metal prongs. The US charger will work on 230V.
Thanks for the tip. If I find an adapter for the prongs in a local shop I will buy it. Still have TomTom charger with USB output, that should do the trick as well.

PS: Got an e-mail from Expansys Benelux and they expect the V350 in the end of this week. Don't think it will be, but who knows.

Thanks for the update. I've also pre-ordered v350 in the Netherlands, and also waiting without fixed dates. Will wait for couple more weeks and cancel my order, switching for Gygabite (only 50Mhz less). Waiting for Motorola might also take longer than expected and only visible phones today are these two I guess (v350 and Gygabite). others are not perspective.

I wouldn't take a chance with a Chinese phone. for me 3 out of 4 were crap. Have seen some bad reviews at amazon.co.uk for the most successful ones.

does anyone know of any other dual sim android phones that use the UMTS / HSDPA 850MHz band? my network over here uses that as its primary, its very hard to find 850/2100 they all seem to be 900/2100.

The Motorola XT531 seems ok, but specs seem pretty low end and it could be a long time before the dual sim is available. I also have seen the blu magic 2 phone which looks nice too but can't find anywhere to buy this phone.

I am trying to find something to replace my acer dx900. anyone have any suggestions on other options?

Yesterday I got GSmart 1315 Until now I had a G1317 and I was quite pleased. Battery holds more than one day unless you really bulling him nonstop.
G1315 looks much nicer. Business look. What I did notice in one day, the screen responds much better than the G1317.

Hi Jappa,

Can you put a bit more light on how the dual SIM feature works on GSmart G1315, please? While you are in call is the other SIM card blocked? And if you are on call on ex. SIM1 and you receive a call on SIM2 can you hold the SIM1 call and answer SIM2? Can you have a 3G connection on both SIMs (although not in the same moment, of course)? How do you choose on which SIM the 3G connection will be established as I belive that if you are roaming both SIMs will be active?

Besides, I've noticed that G1315 has only 256 MB RAM as opposed to 512 MB on V350 - have you noticed any performance slowdown or other limitation of G1315 with regards to performance?

Excuse me for so many questions but I'm a bit desperate to get descent Android Dual SIM phone and you have G1315 in your hands now... I'm sick of waiting for V350  (which still is my choice even is the phone is not released) and if the performance will be OK I might just pick up GSmart G1315 specifically that I'll be in Poland for next two weeks...

Many thanks for any insight! Cheers...

Hello I have a G1317D and it gives me a lot of problems until the last rom change.

The battery didn't works more than a three or four hour if I use the 3G, It had a lot of reboots and finally the couverage is lost a lot of time and it hadn't return if not put the fly mode or reboot the phone.

Now I'm testing again the phone with the new ROM update and with no data connection it seem works good. Now I change one of the SIM and active the data and 3G. I hope the battery works for a day.

Can you say how it works and where did you buy the new 1315? I think the 1315 will be better with a processor change and with a hang, call button like 1310, but all of them are the same with the only difference on the screen.

See you

@jappa,

Can you comment where have you bought the G1315 and how did the purchase went?
I have also been interested on this phone, but I don't seem to find much information about it, at least not ral users reviews, which lead me to think that it was still not available.

Are you able to compare the G1315 with the V350, namely on the following points?

- Which one do you consider better, the Gigabyte GSmart G1315 Skate or the ViewSonic V350?

- What do you consider the major differences between both as well the major advantages / disadvantages of each?

- Can you review it? (Experience with V350 in order to do comparisson review would be great!)

Thanks!

Hax.

I'd love to see that happen! It takes them way too long to get in on the market.

The Belgian Expansys website now says it's expected 14 september: ViewSonic V350 Dual Sim Smartphone (Quad Band, EU)

Has anyone got any experience with these phones:

xFone X1:
Android 2.2, 4.3 Capacitive Touch Screen, 480 x 800px, 256K colors, GPS, Dual SIM, Quad Band, WiFi, 576M RAM, 512M ROM, Dual-core CPU 460MHz+280MHz

bSense D4:
Android 2.2, 4.3 Capacitive Multi-touch Screen, 480 x 800px, 256K colors, GPS, Dual SIM, Quad Band, WiFi, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM, Dual-core CPU 460MHz+280MHz

Metropolis 2:
Android 2.2, 4.0 Capacitive Multi-touch Screen, 480 x 800px, 256K colors, GPS, Dual SIM, Quad Band, WiFi, 256M RAM, 512M ROM, Dual Core CPU 460MHz+280MHz

Do they have enough memory and are they fast enough? What about the 256K colors?
Does anyone know they can be used as a WiFi-hotspot like the V350?
They all come with 2 batteries, this can't be a good thing, right?

Some of them got a line of icons beneath the screen, just like the HTC-phones. On a HTC the icons are buttons that can be pushed (and used), can we say the same about the cheap chinese phones? Or is it just for decoration?

Thx for any feedback! :)

All I can say is that the cpu is not the fastest on earth and that it doesn't support 3G. So you're stuck with slow internet or Wifi.

I've got tired of waiting and have ordered the Lenovo A60 from etotalk.com. It's in the shipping and should be in my hands in about 4-5 days. Will let you know how it works.

I still have some doubts about this Lenovo A60 and find it hard to believe that it is a genuine phone and not some kind of "branded chinese clone", because this is only available on strange chinese wholesale shops...

What do you think? Is this really a viable alternative to the V350 or the G1315?

I added those phones to the to-do list.

I also added a "reliability review" row to the table, which can be used to point back to posts here.

@smurfOnE, what about the G1315, is it eligible already to go also in the wiki list?

I could find some e-shops in Eastern Europe where it is already available, the "official" list of retailers can be found on Gigabyte's website.

As per reports, I think most reliable one is Bulgarian Vali Computers.

I'm thinking of ordering it from there, made a simulation today and the phone is around 212 EUR and international shipping around 33 EUR, which totals around 245 EUR for this phone, which is kind of much, don't you think?

Forgot about the 3G. :( So these phones are all a no-go for me.

I've been looking for the FET T888 now, I'm getting tired of waiting for the V350. :( Does anyone got this phone already?

Has anyone got any experience with the website android-sale.com? Anyone bought something from this website?
