ASTRO is too big, too heavy.
I just need a really simple, easy to use file manager.
So I use "OI File Manager" super awesome.

As for root files, I use "Root Explorer".
ES is nice too btw.
 
I'm a new Android user and downloaded ES. Needed a file explorer/manager and this was the first one I came across.

Never had any issues, like the GUI, and it's simple, so I'm unlikely to change at this point. I haven't got my head around rooting the device yet, so not sure how that will make any difference, but happy so far.

Tree view looks good on Scali though.
 
I tried Astro and ES and ended up with ES. Found it easier to read and easier to navigate, and I think it was faster (but I could be wrong). Amazing that Astro is twice as liked here but ES has a higher rating at Appbrain. Does Astro support Apps2SD? doesn't say so at Appbrain, where ES does.

ES has many things that make it easily a favorite, including WiFi file sharing (no need to connect the phone to PC), Apps Manager, SD card Manager, etc.

The only thing I miss in ES is the root access features. For that I use another file manager.
 
Does anyone konw which file manager allows to manipulate archive zip file. like adding file/folder to existing zip file? and perhaps directly share files from archive zip../compressed files. say if there're photos in zip file, I just want to view and share -> email and all selected files will be uncompressed and attach as normal... ?
 
I use and like Adao right now. Tried Astro and didn't really like it. Also every time I deleted a folder, it started loading one of my apps? Will be trying ES today to see.
 
For the users of ES File Explorer - the app got an update and can function as a root explorer (root access needed)!

This great file manager just got even better. :)

Yes, File Expert is great. I'm using Total Commander for Android and HD File Manager (like their layout on tablet). However, sometimes I need access to zip files with books from my desktop, and those zips contain utf8 encoded cyrillic filenames. None of the filemanagers I tried were able to properly show utf8 encoded filenames inside a zip. The only program which was able to do that was Cool Reader, but it opens folders with large amount of files/dirs very slow.
Please advise me a filemanager which would allow me to deal with utf8 names inside an archive (again, none of the fm listed in this thread are able to do that; I could not try ScaliCommander because there is no link to download posted on the program's site).
 
For non-rooted phones, ASTRO is alright

For rooted phones, I like Root Explorer

But this ScaliCommander is intriguing
 
Dual File Manager is the only one I've tried that allows me to view files held in an encrypted zip, which is how I store confidential (but not secret) information, such as web site passwords, etc.

Having used dual-panel file managers for many years (Norton Commander, Volkov Commander, Total Commander, Midnight Commander, etc.) I've also got used to the dual-panel paradigm.

For occasional forays into the system folders I have to use Root Explorer so DFM obviously isn't perfect, but it the one that gets most use on my phone.
 
another File Expert user here. really like it after trying almost all file managers for a long time. root explorer is nice but i was looking for a free alt
 
Has anyone tried the FX File Explorer? It's by the dev that created SystemPanel. It's in beta, so all of the features are free. I've been using it for a few weeks, and I like it so far. It has the nicest UI from any of the file managers I've used.

FX is by far the best UI of any app I've tried. I use File Expert, for its root access. If FX build that in, it will be my app of choice (and I'd even buy it).

There is a new one on the run. Total Commander for Android. Many perhaps know him from Windows. Free-ware with no adds. ;)
I vote for him ;)
 
I just tried to install Total Commander (had to find on their website, it's not on market). Went to install it and my Zoner AV detected a Trogan. It got rid of it and wouldn't install the app. Might have been some fluke code in the app, but happy I had AV! Another vote for "Don't install apps not on the Market".
