Root Best Gingerbread Rom?

dc3324

Newbie
So i hear there are some stable and nicely working Gingerbread Roms out for the Eris?

I just need a know a few things:

-Whats the best one?
-Does it have any problems or things not working?
-Whats the benifit to updating to Gingerbread on the Eris?

....And it's not that i am new to this, I just haven't had any time to research. Only one i found is KaosGingerbread and that isn't stable

Just for a more complete picture, here are links to other gingerbread ROMs. GSB and Condemned cm7 are the most popular here, but there are other good developers who have similar ROMs. A couple people here have tried some of these others as well.

Here are more cm7 based ROMs:
[ROM][5/3/2011] GSB v3.1 | GingerBread 2.3.4 [CM-7.1.0 RC0 NIGHTLY] - xda-developers
Ginger Tazz 27 s.r.e 5/11.11/ CM 7.1 --2.3.4 - xda-developers
[ROM][UPDATE] MacRom MR2 / CM7-RC0 [5/5/11] - xda-developers

If you want a more vanilla android (without cm tweaks) here are AOSP Gingerbread ROMs. These may have more bugs since they are more recent:
{ROM}[Pure Gingerbread]OMGB 1.1.2 ( Re Uploaded) - xda-developers
{rom} aosp gin-tazz v3 4/22/11 - xda-developers

I know Condemned Soul is working on an AOSP gingerbread ROM as well, but I don't believe he has released it yet. To get a better idea of what people think about each of these, just read through the comments in those threads.

The benefit? I like the cm7 tweaks, so that is a major reason for me. I prefer the more vanilla android to sense or sense-based ROMs, and gingerbread seems to manage memory and apps better than froyo did.

Ok I'm rooted thanks to Univ. rt 4 dmmies. From here. So now I want Gingerbread.

Like OP I'd like to know:
"-Whats the best one?"

I can't find a definite answer. I'm concerned cause all I've found are RCs. Which I take to mean Release Candidates. I'd like a Final Version with no functional problems to use on my (Eris) everyday phone. Thanks all for helping this newb to rooting & flashing.

Edit: I found 3.0 non signed. And it's not RC. So I figure around here that's as final as final gets.

I think that all of the GB ROMs for the Eris keep updating themselves with the latest CyanogenMod nightlies, which will, by definition, be release candidates until the Cyanogen team starts working on the next release of Android (Ice Cream Sandwich.)

As far as I know, all of the CM based GB ROMs for the Eris are functionally stable. I'd stay away from the non-CM based, "AOSP" versions (while all borrow pieces of CM anyway.) If you want stable, download one of the older releases based on CM 7.0 final - I think the devs all list which version has what and keep links to older versions. Which it seems that you figured out yourself. However, do know that there will be a 7.1 final version out at some point, and then we'll probably start seeing 7.2 RC versions out after that.

thats becasue there is no definitive answer. for some reason our hardware seems to run some software differently,as some folks have issues that others dont.

i prefer condemned CM7 or the unreleased "stripped cm7" as they run super smooth on my phone. other GB roms are good, but seem to have a tiny bit of lag in common. but your mileage may vary. you need to research the threads, see what prollems folks are having with wich ones, then make an informed decision which one to try and then try it... see how it works on your phone.i know it kind of sucks to set it all up,then decide you dont like it,but your only a nandroid away from where you are now if it doesnt work out.

nothing wrong with asking opinons, but not one of us can tell you wich one is "the best" as we dont know what your demands and needs are,nor do we know how your device will run them.

also i wouldnt get hung up on wanting a something to be a "finished stable release",as even those can and will have updates. cyanogenmod has some 2.3.3 stable releases(7.0) but the update to 2.3.4 has started the update process all over again.

just because something is a "release candidate",a nightly,or just version X,doesnt mean that it wont be a stable rom for you to run.

my 2 cents :)
