Best Keyboard, and SMS & E-mail apps for you Thunderbolt

Left Coast DJ

My Thunderbolt is supposed to arrive tomorrow - my first foray into Android world from WebOS. Are you happy with the stock HTC Sense apps for:

1) Keyboard

2) SMS

3) E-mail

If you've downloaded a replacement app (Handcent, K9, etc.), please state the reason.

My top aps are
1 Smart keyboard pro
2 Handcent
3 I use gmail.

I like the customization of the keyboard and handcent.

1.) The stock keyboard in the TB is actually pretty nice. However if you want more options and skins definitely go with Smartkeyboard pro. They have an online forum where people post new skins that aren't in the market. Pretty cool
2.) Handcent sms without a doubt.
3.) Stock email works fine

Welcome to thr wonderful world of android! The possibilities are endlesssssssss

1. Swype (though I've not been able to put my Swype Beta on it yet... I've resorted to contacting Swype directly as of this morning).

If that doesn't work, I use Slide-It, Smart Keyboard Pro, and Swiftkey.

2. GoSMS
3. Gmail

I'm having a hard time using any of this with Sense. I absolutely HATE Sense. It DOES have some nice features and integrations, but the interface is AWFUL! I'm chomping at the bit waiting for root and CyanogenMod 7 to get to the Thunderbolt.

Is K9 Mail a noticeable upgrade over the stock Sense/Google one? What are the added benefits of K9?

IMO, yes. Because it does push email much better than stock. I get my .Mac emails about 1 second sooner in K9 than it shows up in my mail app on my Macbook Air sitting right next to it.

Plus, I actually prefer the interface and settings of K9 over the stock app.

Try it. It's free and if you don't like it you can go back to the stock app no problem.

Lol, Sense is by far the least of all the evils that are android skins.
It could be worse. You could be using motoblur.
