Best keyboard?

What's wrong with Swype? I love it infinitely more than the regular portrait-mode QWERTY, the compact QWERTY, or the dialpad with T9. I never have to turn my phone over to landscape mode to type anymore. It's that fast once you get past the learning curve :].

But to be fair, AnySoftKeyboard is actually a good keyboard app. Some people complain about the keys not being much bigger, but you can actually change the size of your keys in the options. It's also slightly more responsive than Touch Input, IMHO.

Everyone seems to be talking about Swype all of a sudden. Did they finally release it in the market cause if I search Swype nothing comes up, or is everyone still running the leaked version like I still own on my phone.

I use the compact qwerty keyboard that came with the phone and prefer it to all the others.

I hated swype.

same. i run the stock htc keyboard normally in portrait mode with the spellchecker turned off completly. after a few months and hundreds of txt msgs im as fast or faster than i ever was on any physical keyboard.

The new swype is great, paired with tapatalk and my favorite forum...... Does it get any better? Lol

n/m: had to Switch Input Method

What did I do wrong? I had the older version of Swype.. tried to upgrade to 5228 but it wouldn't take. so I uninstalled 035 and then successfully installed 5228, but even though Use Swype is checked, I still get the default HTC keyboard. I even rebooted. What am I missing? Tnx

Long-Press in a text box (just as if you were going to Paste something).

Press 'Select Input Method'.

Choose Swype.

is there a way i can get t9 in portrait and qwerty in landscape?

When you're using the keyboard (in normal portrait mode), press the little picture of the gear, to the left of the Space Bar. Hit Keyboard types. Choose whichever one you want. If you choose 'Phone Keypad', you can t9 in portrait.

When you turn the phone sideways to landscape, it's automatically qwerty.

I read a post when I first got the Eris, where the writer said that he had come from a Blackberry and could now actually type much faster on the Eris than on the BB (he said he timed it). Coming from a BB myself, the post gave me a lot of hope that things would improve (the Eris is my first touch keyboard device).

Now, after almost two months with the Eris, I find what that user wrote unbelievable. I still hate the touch keyboard, and I can't imagine anyone typing faster on any touch keyboard than on a BB keyboard. Can anyone else say that they can?

I use the HTC touch input keyboard that came on the Eris. It really is the best. Swype is cool for a bit, but impractical in the long run.

Swype is tough if you don't know where the keys are on a qwerty keyboard.

Super fast if you're quick to locate the keys. I'm always surprised to see people not like swype who have any affinity for qwerty.

I started using swype on my omnia after the xda folks swiped it from the Omnia 2. It took me a while to get used to it, but I like it much better than a hunt and peck on those tiny keyboards. I'm a touch typist, with an average around 125 WPM or so, so it was frustrating to hit the wrong key because they are so small. Swype allows me to miss the keys while it still figures out what I meant (mostly). I'm actually using SlideIT right now, which is a swype like keyboard available in the market.

Man, how am I supposed to keep up with these updates? You know as soon as I get the 2.1 OTA, I'm not gonna keep coming to these boards, right?
Huh, seriously? Why are you hanging out here at all then? When 2.1 comes out your phone will let you know, until them it's just a rumor mill here.
Personally the 2.1 threads come nearer to keeping me away than making me come in.

+1...

I have swapped between my tour and eris a dozen times since I got the eris...

It's defiantly a learning curve that apparently I'm not going to get used to...

It stinks though...cause I really like the eris...:(

I'm a bit older and not a "techie", this is my 1st smartphone. I was very proficient w/ stock keyboard, but wanted to try Swype. I have the newest "Lite" version and it takes a few to learn. But, now I'm lovin' it, gotta just let your finger fly and trust the keyboard. I've learned that the faster I go, the more correct it works.

Definitely a Swype guy from now on.:D:cool:
