Help Best Media Player?

Not sure about video, but here's what I know on audio. I really like the way look and feel of the stock HTC app. It is sweet. However, you can't intercept the play controls. This means that while using bluetooth or headphones, you can't skip songs or play/pause. I also found that that the Wigdetoid controls don't work with the stock app.

And so... I moved on (mostly for the headphones and bluetooth). I've tried PowerAmp, WinAmp and Cube (C^3). PowerAmp has a hidious, Palm-like interface. Awesome back in 2002, but well past it's prime. Cube is good and has a really sleek interface, but is kinda buggy. So... I use Winamp. It's not as slick in appearance as HTC or Cube, but it looks way better than PA and everything about it just works.

For audio files, PlayerPro is really nice. It costs a few bucks, but you can run the trial version free for a few days and see if you like it.

I've been playing around with a few of them and here are my pros and cons:

Stock player pros:

- Best sound of the players I've tried. The preset EQ's are comparable to the iphone.
- Easy to navigate as the background doesn't hurt your eyes.

Stock player cons:

- Home screen widget is not transparent.
- Podcasts are mixed in with the library and not separate.

Power Amp pros:

- Customizable EQ (also see cons).
- Transparent home screen widget.

Power Amp cons:

- EQ is difficult to set. Some songs sound great while others sound horrible on the same setting.
- Skins are too dark and do not contrast well. Hurts my eyes to read.
- Podcasts are not separate from the general library.
- UI is too difficult to use while driving aside from the widget to simply skip to the next song. The option buttons are too small.

Winamp pros:

- Simple UI easy to use
- Podcasts are separate from general library
- Free streaming music

Winamp cons:

- No EQ settings
- Sound is flat
- Home screen widget is not transparent

So far I have only tried these three and am a little frustrated as I am missing the simplicity and sound quality that I had with my iphone. When playing music on my iphone the sound was consistent from song to song. This is the biggest issue I am having trying to find a media player for my Inspire. One song sounds great across the spectrum while another is about to blow my speakers with too much bass. Then the next is piercing my ear with the treble too high.

Based on the notes above, can anyone recommend a player that might fit the bill or tell me what I'm doing wrong with the three I've tried?
