Root best method to block ota update notifications for optimus elite

Seems like deleting the /cache .zip was only a temporary fix. Still getting the spam message, but not for a day or so after I deleted that .zip, and now there's a larger delay but it's starting to spam me again and the .zip is still deleted/non-existant.

Same happened to me. I just accepted the update, the phone when into recovery (I'm guessing because the .zip was missing), I picked clear cache and they haven't bugged me since.

Do you know whether or not that was the dalvik cache? By the way, I'm no longer receiving the update notification spam. It must have tried to update on it's own and failed, dunno.

I am very interested in getting rid of these spam messages for the OTA update. No need for this update, and the risk of slowing my phone down makes it all the more unappealing. Someone (who is more experienced than I) should absolutely provide instructions for booting into recovery, deleting necessary files associated with the update notifications, and not being spammed anymore.

Thanks in advance to whoever can provide this I'm so sick of seeing this pop up and not knowing what to do about it

PS I am not rooted, and honestly have little interest in it at this time, thanks

The blue items are part of the menu of recovery. items that you can actually scroll and select...

Items in yellow are informational only and can't be scrolled or selected.

If you aren't seeing the update then it may not be on correct sd card. Name it update.zip and copy it to the internal sdcard not the external one.

Once you get to recovery go to "Apply update from sdcard" and then in next menu select the update.zip file

Thanks for info - however I am lost with this procedure.
I can see the zip file in Yellow txt, but can't get to it.
I don't know how to copy anything to a card.
How do you rename a file, where is 'Apply update from SD card' ?
I don't know the basic commands, like navigation, delete etc in the recovery environment. :(
thx

I have no clue what dalvik cache is - hehe. I thought I was at the normal recovery screen and picked "wipe cache partition". But I have the memory of a gold fish, so I cannot swear to it.

ive noticed that even if you delete the update file from system,it will come back over time. maybe lg will eventually stop pushing this piece of trash

ive downloaded all the files and i have the usb driver, but when i click the start step one button nothing appears on my screen im wondering whats up. thanks in advance i know this has probably been addressed. thanks

Mine was constantly buggingme so I broke down and installed it l, rooted at took the crapware back off including quicknemo

Runs like before and no more irritating the crap out of me to update. I know it's a Pita to do that but it got on my nerves

I think you posted in wrong thread... areyou trying the one click root??

Lol,kwknott is right, you're posting in the wrong thread. And you're a victim of the same problem that 90% of the people who can't get it to work have as well. You didn't place your adb files in the correct place. They need to be in C:\android\platform-tools.

The simplest way to block an OTA update, if you're rooted, is to rename the otacerts.zip file in /etc/security (etc/security/otacerts.zip). Without that file, the OTA update won't start and you won't get any annoying messages. You can also delete it, but it's probably better to rename it since there might someday be a VM update that's actually useful (kidding, we all know that will never happen).

It's that easy. I'm not sure what happens if you have already gotten the update and then rename/delete the file, but if you're starting with a new phone, it works.

I don't understand why you need to complain so much about it if your not rooted. Because the update breaks root, which is regained easily by one program lol. Other than that, i'd say just do it since your not rooted, there isn't any risk. I mean then you can take screenshots and whatnot. :)

Just two words (after the colon): THANK YOU! :D

EDIT: *sigh* No dice, still getting the message. Anyone else got an idea? Or at least the directory where the apparently-already-download .zip lies in hiding so I can delete it or at least remove enough system bloatware to break the update? Tired of LG pushing this crap. We get it, there's an "update," but it's anything but an upgrade and instead of install later can I install NEVER without you pestering me every time I unlock my device?

Any easier way to stop OTA ?
I was unable to understand the steps described so far....
Maybe root is easier than OTA blocking ?
Thx

Yeah i think you hit the nail on the head. Giantpune and Hashtag have made rooting this phone really easy. If you have any problems with the click root, read the whole thread carefully because a lot of common problems have been answered. And I think quick memo is kinda cool tbh.

i agree. its best to root phone via jcase method, update the phone, then use the one click or manual root method for after update occurs. then your set with no more update announcements. all the file renaming or deleting may cause problems down the road.

You guys do realize that you can update to ZV5 and just push the adb files from the JCASE root to re-achieve root access, right?

i could care less if i had to root by reusing the jcase method or some other method. the jcase method is invaluable because it allows you to recover in a number of cases from boot loops that are otherwise brick city.

agreed. You don't even need to reflash the firmware after the ZV5 update, just re-push the adb files/commands.

This works because the jcase method leaves a gaping security hole. It will run the jc.sh script with root permissions at every boot. Any app in the app store or anywhere else can write whatever it wants into the jc.sh script and it will be run next time you boot the phone. So basically every app you ever run on your phone is allowed full root access without ever asking you.
