Root Best, or least-worst ROM

mtrac

Lurker
My two-year-old Optimus Elite quite literally phoned it in over the weekend. I was surprised to learn I could keep my grandfathered $25 plan with the Optimus V, which came today.

I am finding that I cannot install some apps on the new phone due to its version. None are dealbreakers but one will be painful.

What is the best way to get the V into parity with the Elite? Basically, I don't ask a lot out of a smartphone and just want it to work with a minimum of fuss. I have a narrow window to return it and get something more modern, but the V's reputed ruggedness will be useful for me and I would like to keep it (and my plan).

Thanks.

Howdy there mtrac!!
Seeing as you are looking for the best, or least-worst rom, I moved your thread into the root forum for your device.
I'm sure the rooting folks here can best give some opinions for ya:)

Hello mtrac, i am assuming that you understand to install a custom recovery and flash a rom that you will have to root your phone, which will void the warranty. With that being said and you wish to continue go here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/453389-optimus-v-all-things-root-guide-updated-03-11-13-a.html anything and everything that you will need for rooting, installing a custom recovery, and flashing a rom can be found here.

You will need to know the baseband of your phone, go to settings > about phone > baseband , it should say zv4 or zv5.

The MiRaGe rom is the most stable and hassle free rom for our phone, but it is only 2.3.7 gingerbread. If i understand you correctly though, you want a more updated rom to run apps that need 4.0 or higher?

I would recommend, Bean_Whiz, very good and stable rom, it's a slimmed down jellybean rom with a Touchwhiz theme, but you will need a bigger SD card to run it.

The most up to date rom is bigsupersquid's kit-kat OS2SD 4.4.4 although it is still in development as we speak, many people are using it as their daily driver, another very stable rom and bigsupersquid is really on top of development.

As i said, everything is in the all things root guide, check it out, read through it, there are great guides on how to do almost anything with our phone. Read, read and read some more, if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask, post back and let us know how your doing, and which rom you decide to try.

Good luck. ;)

+1 for the KitKat ROM. Used my V while on a trip to Los Angeles recently. My F3 went wonky in the middle of Oklahoma for some reason. While in Denver, I got online through VM on my laptop, and reactivated the V for a few days until I could 'unbrick' my F3. So yeah, my trusty V saved my sanity LOL!

I do like the MirAGE and SlimBean ROMS though.
