Root Best Practices for switching ROM's?

Just wondering what you recommend for the process in switching ROM's.

When you do the nandroid backup, do you do it with data, or do you wipe data first (to make the nandroid backup smaller/faster?) Since I have Titanium Backup set up, I can get all my apps and data from there, right? What are the pros/cons of doing it with or without clearing data first?

I'm relatively new to this. I've been running Megatron for a couple weeks now, and wanted to take a look at the new CTMod... I really like the swipe to remove notifications on my tablet, and would love to have that on this phone. Since we don't have JB ROM's (yet) I figured I'd give it a try with this one.

Also, Is it necessary to always clear cache/dalvik cache before installing a new ROM? Just curious.

Any other pointers for a relative noob to rooting/Modding ROM's?

I really appreciate all the helpful people on this forum. I've learned a lot already.

If You Have A SD Card That Has A Good Amount Of Memory (8GB+), Go For The Full Nandroid Backup.

And Yes, CTMod Is An Awesome ROM. It Is Necessary To Wipe Data, Cache, And Dalvik Cache So There's No Problems With Your First Time With Your Fresh ROM.

That's kinda what I was thinking about the SD Card size... My current card is 4GB. And with only 2 nandroid backups on it, It's taking a bit more than 1/2 of the card already. But I have a 16GB card laying around... Maybe I should stick that in, then I won't have to worry about it.

And thanks for the confirmation as far as cache wiping goes.

No Problem :D Lol And If It's A Backup That You Know You're Not Going To Anytime Soon, Delete It.

Is it good to keep at least 1 nandroid backup per ROM to restore from? Or is it better to flash new and use the titanium backup each time? I guess I'm wondering if the nandroid backup is just for if something goes really wrong to get back to where you were or should be used as a base for returning to when you decide to return to a former ROM.

Maybe it doesn't make any difference. That's why I'm asking.

A Nandroid Backup Is Mainly For If Something Goes Wrong When You Install A New Rom Or If You Don't Wanna Start Over If You Wanna Go Back To Your Old ROM. Sure You Can Have At Least One Backup Per Rom Its Not Recommended. You Can Use Titanium Backup To Back Up Your Apps And Restore Then Back.
