Root Best rom for battery life??

Lyvewire

Hello all,

Not looking to beat a dead horse with the battery issue. However I've tried just about every rom or and was looking for feedback. I'm starting to care less about rom features and more about battery life. Appreciate the input in advance. Kernel your using would help to.

p.s. I'm aware of the exploding battery kernel too for the record. I'll pass on that one for now.

Thanks

FYI

I've tried

Cynanogen
Myn 4, and 5
Baked Snack from 1.7 til current
Fresh up oldest until 3.5
MIUI (not long enough to understand battery life)

The real question is, which kernels have you used w/ these ROM's? Your battery life is going to depend heavily on which kernel you use rather than which ROM you're running.

Outside of what kernel you're using there are other factors that go into achieving great battery life. Using SetCPU in conjunction with using a custom kernel (so you can underclock/overclock) will affect your battery life tremendously. Personally, I like Netarchy cfs more havs no sbc kernels (you can find them here). I can get about 48 hours unplugged (that entails me using my phone in spurts, emails, browsing, text, and talking here and there) and can get upwards of 72 hours with light use (phone idling a lot of the time). I do use SetCPU to underclock/overclock btw.

You can also use the collin_ph battery tweak. I've heard great things about it and it does pretty much the same things SetCPU (using profiles) does. Keep in mind that if you decide to use this tweak, it is recommended you use w/ a no HAVS kernel and DO NOT USE w/ SetCPU.

Here's more information about the battery tweak:

Also keep in mind....it depends on what apps/widgets you having installed/running. A couple of widgets running with auto-sync turned on at intervals of less than 4 hours will make a difference. The bottom line is the more you have running, the more drain on the battery. Live wallpapers, brightness....GPS, Bluetooth and many other aspects also cause a higher battery drain (there are a ton of threads out there discussing this).

Each ROM comes packaged with different apps and settings so you will need to tweak and then flash kernels to get a true comparison. Don't scrap a ROM/Kernel combo after only one day. Give it a few days to get a true reading.

48 hours of battery life!!!?? Definetely worth a shot. Which ROM and kernel are you using? I've tried so many Kernels I've lost track of which ones I tried. I cant say I've tried the underclocking though. I bought Setpcu or whatever a while ago and although it seemed to speed the phone up,it didnt do my batter life any good.

Thanks

nevermind it says what your using right underneath your post.

btw what does this mean "I do use SetCPU to underclock/overclock". How do you do that? and what do you adjust it to exactly.

I cant say I'd give the kernels a chance once I'd see the life still dropping fast. I'll try to have more patience this time around. The battery crap can be fustratiing.

Thanks

Flash a Netarchy kernel, bfs kernels always drained my battery a bit faster than cfs. Try more aggressive undervolting first and if your phone seems unstable, random reboots, choppiness, etc. then try a less aggressive kernel (some phones are picky about more aggressive undervolting). Run SetCPU and choose "Device Selection", once you've done that, change your settings to the ones above (245/1152 is known to be one of the most stable over/underclocking settings you can use). Once you've done all that (and you like the results), check "Set On Boot".

Don't worry about any profiles, you shouldn't need any using "Smartass" scaling governor.

don't be disappointed if you don't get what others get with their combos. i've had a horrible experience chasing down rom/kernel combos for better battery life, and i've never once gotten that good of battery life.

i'm by no means calling into doubt that it happens, i'm just saying don't be disappointed with not getting the results merely by changing your rom/kernel. i've gotten 10 hrs of light use out of my battery on rom/kernel combos that people claim get them 48+ on moderate use. i don't use any fancy widgets, brightness is down, wallpaper is dark, don't use bluetooth, low low gps use. maybe i have a bad battery or something. basically just make sure you look at everything that could be draining your battery.

also, +1 to giving it a couple days. when i just rooted my evo and was on fresh 3.3 with netarchy 4.1.8 i was getting under 12 hours but after a day or two i was getting over 20 hours on my battery. it shot back down at some point for some unknown reason and i haven't been able to replicate the results on any rom/kernel combo since, but it does say something about your phone taking a couple charge/discharges to learn how fast it drains the battery on a certain kernel. i'd recommend wiping your battery stats and charging it full after flashing a new combo, then giving it a couple days to see where it goes

That's some very good, sound, advice. Every Evo is different and what ROM/kernel combomay work great for a group of Evo's, may prove otherwise and to be unstable for another group.
