CM7
- Pros -
Fast (Faster than Nookie Froyo (NF)
WIFI is stable (Doesnt loop)
Stable all around
Fairly easy to setup
Bluetooth is now working
Built in Soft keys (back on menu nuilt into Notification bar)
Battery Life
- Cons -
No flash (yet)
No Youtube (yet)
Certain apps that try to play an intro movie or any movie will hang
Nookie Froyo
- Pros -
Youtube, flash, movies, etc
Nook Froyo Theme Clean (Added soft buttons, very cool looking theme)
Runs most apps well
- Cons -
Not as stable or fast as CM7
WIFI not as stable (Wifi loops)
Battery Life
So after running NF for a few days, I kept getting random shutdowns, reboots, hangups, and general instability, whether I was OC'ing or not. It could have been the theme, kernel, or any amount of user error, but it gave me a bad taste regardless.
After running CM7 for a few days now, I can say that CM7 is by far a better choice as long as you wont miss youtube or videos, although its only a matter of time before that gets added in. CM7 is snappier all around, screen swiping, apps starting, probably would get a higher Quadrant score too if it didnt hang trying to encode Video. Also, CM7 gets way better battery life. Like an extra couple of hours.
My vote goes to CM7 for now. Honeycomb will be the best choice once we get the source and can work on it for reals.

I received my NC today and immediately set to installing CM7 on the emmc. Very nice, not as fast as my Nexus One but pretty close. As far as movies go I find Rock Player does a great job of everything DivX or MP4 that I can throw at it. Yes no Youtube at this time.
Stinky - Is there a way to display the CM7 softkeys if the notification bar is not visible like when using Rock Player or Angry Birds? I had to install Button Savior so I could use the menu button on some of these full screen apps.

AFAIK that is the only workaround. I have been using it for a few days and I dont mind it. I actually find that when using my phone I am constantly reaching for the CM softkeys that arent there.
Have tried both HC V4 and CM7 nightly, only thing I can say is that CM7 has completely locked my nook (on reboot it shows the "the future of.." text and never loads the OS) twice in the past week, requiring a complete re-image, whereas HC has not had that issue, but have found some issues with app compatability (not really surprised there until HC tackes off).
So it's a tradeoff =D.

One thing you might look into are two items:
1) Task Switcher to allow the user to switch tasks via a status bar icon
2) Mod script to allow you to configure the volume buttons to serve as "back", "home", "Search", etc:

It might have been missed, but CM7 now supports video including Youtube app. Its still being woked on, so they are making progress.
Shoot, I havent even checked XDA yet this morning, they may already have something better out.

I saw that, but not interested in "choppy" video. I know things are getting better all the time with thier nightly releases.
On the flip side, if a 3rd party app has all the codecs necessary to play videos, then lack of native support or poor implementation isn't an issue anymore.
Also, was reading some XDA forums and there were comments that Nookie Froyo was faster than CM7, which greatly confused me. I don't mind reading up on things, but going through hundreds of pages on XDA does get a little tedious and it's hard to pick out the gems.

Rock Player is playing my DIVX movies with full fps, no jitter. Youtube is not so good.

A lot of times I want to play movies for the kids, while at dinner or such. I used to use Youtube a lot to download a cartoon to keep them occupied. Sometimes internet access is unreliable, and without that, no Youtube or poor performance. But with the nook, I've taken to ripping DVD's and putting them on SD card. That way, I don't need to tether to my phone for data access, instant access, and the video quality is much better. Think I'll try Rock Player tonight.

Do you have to wipe data/cache when you installed the latest nightl? I have been updating nightlies every day, and youtube is still choppy

Youtube is still limited to 15 FPS for whatever reason. They are narrowing down the problem area and it hopefully will be fully functional very soon.
I have been messing with video apps, and using software decoding, video plays really well without an FPS cap.

I liked UD well enough as well as Phiremod, but just recently went to the RC4 of CM7. The only reason being that it is always going to be first out and I am a bit impatient with this Rom flashing obsession..
