I live in a fringe service area and previously had a Droid 2, worked OK. Still have a Droid X, works OK. Now have a Droid 4, also works OK. Daughter has had a Samsung Reality and now has a Samsung Brightside, both barely work at all. My Motorola phones at home typically show anywhere from -95 dBm to -103 dBm signal. I bought a Galaxy Nexus and returned it the next day because it could not receive enough signal to even activate it. I had to drive about 2 miles towards the nearest tower to get it to activate.
From my experience, Motorola definitely has the best radios for service. I've been looking to upgrade for awhile so I've been checking different phones at Verizon retailers every chance I get. Without fail, all of the Motorola phones have significantly better signal strength than all other operating phones. Usually around 10 dBm greater signal reception than LG, HTC or Samsung phones, and about 5 dBm greater signal reception than iPhones.
So this signal information from the phones plus real world experience tells me that so far at least, Motorola phones have the best reception currently.
Unless there is a Motorola Nexus with a 2500+ mAh battery released soon, my next phone will definitely be the Razr HD Maxx.
