Root Best Stable Rom

Just wondering what you think it is. I've only used Assonance, and it is decent. It does have a few bugs, and I'm having GPS problems (though I haven't really tried to fix it yet). But, what I noticed is Cognition and Perception have bugs too. All I want is a debuged Rom that has all the features of stock 2.1, that has mobile AP and a working GPS. I don't want to have to flash new roms every week. The only reason for flashing a new rom, IMO, is to try a different rom, or when the new version of your rom is now on a new kernel/OS.

The stock 2.1 with GPS Restore worked really well for me. It was laggy at times, and didn't have mobile AP, but everything worked including the GPS Navigation.

If you like 2.1 then use unleash the beast or ryans oclf and fix the the lag issue and your set till 2.2 is officially released. But I wouldn't even count on that to be bug free. We see what Sammy did with 2.1.

I tried Assonance. It used waaay too much battery for me; like 10% per hour overnight AFTER I bumped the clock down to 1,000mHz.

So far for me Perception builds have been great on my phone. Everything works as it should, save for haptic on the home button. Nice and fast, and it sips battery compared to Assonance (4-6% overnight with the same settings).
I use the non oc/uv version, and I haven't experienced any force closes or anything like that.

Doesn't exist. You either stick with stock, or accept the additional bugs/issues/risks of living the hacked-ROM lifestyle.

Using a custom froyo ROM on the Captivate is definitely a cost/benefit type thing.

I decided to start using ROMs because I became bored with eclair and tired of waiting for froyo. Every ROM I have tried has some bugs/quirks. It's a matter of finding what you can and can not live with. I don't mind if I don't have haptic feedback on the home button, it's just not important to me. To others, that is very annoying. Likewise, I don't use bluetooth, so I don't care if it works or not. I care more about the speed, stability and overall feel.

After having tried at least 5 different ROMS (and countless different versions of each), I don't think any ROM is perfect. But at the same time, I don't think stock eclair on the Captivate is perfect either. It just becomes a matter of personal preference. The only way to find a ROM you like is to try out a few.

One other thing I have noticed reading the threads over on XDA is the following. Even though we are all presumably using the same phone, not every ROM works the same on all Captivates. For some reason, a ROM that gives me great battery life may give terrible life on another Captivate and vice versa. Also, just about every thread I have read includes people who can not get the ROM to work, while it works perfectly for others. I don't know why, but it seems like these phones are either very temperamental or some batches of the phones are slightly different.

Ive made my way around the roms, cognition, perception, tried assonance for 2 days. i moved back to cog today. i liked assonance, seemed to have a little custom touch but it was nice, until my phone random shutdown this morning and i nearly missed a final. i have had 0 shutdowns owning my phone and i wasnt ready for that, so as soon as i got home i moved back to what has been the most stable to me and that is cog

were u using OC/UV? I am using different kernel with no OC...and i didnt had more stable ROM before...try doing that

I read everywhere that OC makes phone unstable..so I agree with Xcul...there is no need to overclocking

yes i disabled the OC but ran the kernel that came with assonance. which kernel were you using.

I really like cognition as the most stable, for me, but the dev is doing 2 roms and is just getting behind

Perception 4 is probably the most stable of the custom ROMs, although a little older and missing some features of the newer custom ROMs.

dilligafs 2.5. good battery, gps, and fastest rom ive used. doesnt have the home button bug some of the other roms do and just looks nice.
pretty sure there is a 3.0 out but its a beta and i havent tried it yet, but mostly because 2.5 is pretty much about as perfect as a rom could get , fro me anyway.
