Root Best Stock Rom

I'm going to root my girlfriend's HTC evo 4g to improve the performance, but I need to keep it as close to stock looking but without the bloat. What are some good roms for that?

I've been reading a lot of the guides before I decided to register and ask about the roms. I just need to find a way to back up her important data before I put the plan in motion.

Assuming she's already rooted, a combination of titanium backup to backup her apps & data and a nandroid in case anything goes wrong should cover your needs.

Contacts should already be backed up to google and sms can be saved via an app as well.

If you have titanium pro it will now back up SMS/MMS as well as call logs and bookmarks. It's quite nice. New feature they just added.

Right now it's stock, no modifications at all. I may not need to back up any thing other than contacts, and that can be done with Google correct? Pictures as well...she said she deleted all SMS trying to free memory up so those don't need backing up. I'm not sure how apps work on android being an iphone person, but can any purchased apps be re-downloaded w/o being charged again?

My main goal for her is to get better performance. I won't need any themes, fonts, etc.. Just the ability to move any apps to SD and removal of stock apps she has no interest in using. I will likely use one of the mentioned ROMS and see how it goes. Thanks for all the feedback.

yes as long as the contact is made under google you are good to go.

pictures are stored on the sd card so your are fine there.

google remembers purchased apps and can be re-downloaded with no extra fees or anything.

and the only way to truly move the apps to the card is to partition the card. it is recommended that you have a class 6 or higher card. since the apps will be fully on the card (when partitioned) you will need that card to have pretty good read/write speeds or the apps performance might suffer a little.

you can read up on partitioning in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html. just skip to the second post. there is a section on partitioning and moving apps to the card.

The SD is the 8gb stock card that came with it. I'm not sure of the class, but I may just buy a bigger card(16gb) at the required class to be on the safe side. She won't be getting a new phone for awhile and loved her evo before the performance issues, so I just want to optimize it so she can be happy with it again.
