Best usb car charger?

Just got my new Note and I've noticed that my usb lighter chargers don't provide the appropriate amount of power. They slow the drain while I'm driving, but don't actually charge the battery. Can anyone recommend a car charger that provides the proper amount of power? Thanks!

Here is what I did, this has to the most economical route to go. Just overlook the fitting for the socket usb as I was looking for the cheapest dual socket and this one happened to be it> charger @ $3.03

and lastly a 3 foot USB 3.0 cable @ $5.49

At a total price of $8.52 which 5-8 days shipping and tax is next to nothing you simply cannot find anything anywhere that is better or as good as this for a Note 3, as USB 3.0 chargers do not exist. If you have kids in the back seat, may want to splurge and get the 6ft cable, and toss on a video as you drive for a bit more peace as you drive.

Anything that will deliver over 2 Amps.

I haven't been paying much attention to usb 3.0 yet. Can anyone confirm the following?

With the older usb standard (for my old galaxy nexus) I had to buy a "charge only" cable with two pins disabled that would keep the phone from going into "sync mode" and charging at a much lower rate that couldn't keep up (apparently the pins are disabled in wall bricks usually and not the cable). Is this still the case with usb 3.0? I'm thinking not since I see it powers external hds etc.

Thanks.

I bought a bellkin 2 amp and one if those amazon cables as well. The end of the cable turned out to be too fat to use with my tech21 case so I wound up having to use the one that came with my Note. I'm hoping the otterbox case has a bigger opening at the bottom when it comes out.

I'm using the Motorola USB charger that came with the Droid Bionic. whilst driving i didnt have anything heavy duty happening, and with such long battery life its not easy to tell if its a battery drain, but as far as I know, its charging. Maybe next medium/long road trip I'll try to play a movie and leave it plugged in as well and see if its charging, discharging, or staying put..

So I did some reading on this, maybe you guys already knew, but I didn't.

As I mentioned, USB 2.0 connected to a sync cable via a usb port would charge at a max of 500mA max and when connected to a sync cable via a wall charger would go to 2A max.

Apparenlty USB 3.0 connected to a sync cable via a usb port will charge at a max of 900mA and when connected to a sync cable via a wall charge will go to 2A max.

So:

- They are even on the wall
- On a USB port, the 3.0 standard is faster. However, for a computer it would have to be in a USB 3.0 port that could also handle the amps.

For a USB plug in the car it should charge at 900mA. Now, the question is what is the usage. I know for my galaxy nexus that 500mA charging in the car via USB was NOT enough to keep up with streaming or navigation. It would slow it down, but not catch up.

I'm not sure if the added 400mA is enough to do it hear and it is tough to tell since it has such a big battery. One has to figure it must get close.

Interestingly enough I guess there is a new standard for power on USB coming out in 2014 which will microcontrol the power supplies so they talk to devices and alter the rate depending on what is happening.

I would imagine that there must be an app that shows real time charge/discharge stats while plugged in or not, so that various chargers & cables can be tested for quality.

Anyone know of such a thing? (I'll do some searching too, later when I have more time.)

Preferably something easy to use, maybe with a homescreen widget, that's easy to monitor while driving, etc.

Here's an app that claims to show the charging current on many Galaxy models. The pro version has a widget that shows the current when you tap it. There is also a lite version. I've use it, and it definitely shows a larger charging current when using the provided USB 3.0 cable from a wall socket charger compared to using a USB 2.0 cable to a wall socket. While it seems to work, I can't vouch for its accuracy!
