Best Verizon Alternative to HTC Thunderbolt?

I'm in the same boat as a bunch of you guys (about to jump out). If one were to pick up a new phone where is the best place to do so? I have seen the X is available from costco for $50 and the inc is free from HTC.com. Any other suggestions on where to purchase a phone from and why (free shipping, best price, best warranty, etc.)?
costco is also throwing in a pretty nice hard case and a car charger for the fifty bucks.

The x is an awesome phone. Im currently using it. It has the best battery life of pretty much any smart phone. Rooting and romming gets rid of the blur lag.

Yes it does, and I want to say that there *is* a Sense rom out there for the Droid X. I've never pursued it, because I didn't care for sense when I had it on my Dinc., and one of the first things I did after rooting was find a om that had no remnants of Sense. None the less, a lot of people must have liked it, because you still see it pop up in some roms.

I'll look on some of the other forums, and report back on that point.

Follow up on 3/8: Haven't found a Sense rom for the DX yet...

In my personal opinion, there are three big players here. Each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Thunderbolt, Incredible, and X.

Thunderbolt: +Dream phone(sense, screen size, cameras, abundant storage, processor, etc) | -eternal waiting
Incredible: +sense, +looks bad a$$ | -Small screen, -included storage lacking
X: +screen size, +battery life, +included storage | -blur, -not as good looking.

fascinate(just for fun):+user friendly, +color intensity, +? | -pentile matrix thing, -battey life, -feels cheap, -?, -?

Those are the big factors for me which is really making it difficult.

hell go ahead and download all the questionable apps that you think may have a virus so that when you get the TB you aren't loading it with malicious apps!

How about.. no?
So we are advocating downloading of questionable apps now so there is a reason to justify the return of a device?

Curious question, If say I get an Incredible for some reason, would it be possible for me to switch from 16GB SD Card from my Eris to the INC?

iPhone 4. And I'm 100% confident that would be my best solution. Plus if you buy it at the Apple Store, your return policy is 30days no questions asked.
Within 30days Bolt should be out already.

And plus, like many people have mentioned, you can sell it for a hell of alot more than any of the android phones verizon has right now. That is if you go past your 30 days.

Just using launcher pro gets rid of most of the jumpiness. Running LP with the 3d app drawer and it is smooth as silk. Still trying to figure out what rooting will get me with this phone. It is fast, smooth and has great battery life as it is.

I would have to agree with other posts that the iPhone 4 is the best alternative - today. Not being an Apple fan boy - only product I ever had was an iPad Touch, and the only smartphone I've ever owned is the Droid Eris (great little phone). The features on the iPhone 4 are the most up-to-par with the Thunderbolt as of today (not including the OS).

The thing that sets it apart from the Droid X or DInc or any other current Droid phone is the Front Facing Camera. If that's a selling point to you on the Thunderbolt, then I think that's the deciding factor.

That being said, I will wait for the Thunderbolt as long as it takes.

If you get an iphone you do not get google voice to navigate, deal breaker for me. No calendar widgets, no weather widgets, power control widget, no removable battery, android has me hooked.

I got an eris to, I am running Gingerbread on it too, haha this phone has defied all odds.

My mother has an Iphone4 on VZW, for her its perfect, for me, not so much. I guess the main thing about IOS that I dont like is the whole lack of customization that Android has, and that is a big selling point for me.

I agree. I don't like the idea of being shut off from customization. The apps on the home screen would drive me crazy enough.

Can the iphone 4 run multiple apps at a time? I've thought about getting one, but I knew this was a problem in the past. I frequently run navigation and pandora at the same time and would be bummed if I could not do this.

What will rooting get you? One word: Freedom.

Mike, pretty vague there. Freedom from what. With my OG droid I was able to overclock (needed to overclock)...don't need that with the X. Moto blur is almost taken out of the equation with Launcher Pro. Most of my custom roms were all set up the same with LP on my OGdroid anyway. It would be nice to get rid of some of the bloat but it does not seem to slow the phone down nor does the battery seem to suffer (although I cannot tell since I am not rooted, but the battery life is more than adequate enough). Wifi tether would be nice but to tell you the truth I used it about a half dozen time with my droid so I can make due otherwise. I find less need to tether since the screen is so much better and browsing on the phone is more acceptable.

I am open to all convicing :)

I believe you can use certain apps simultaneously(like the music player and navigation), but the background app must be programed to do so. Most of the apps close completely when you exit them but there are a few apps that are frozen when not in use (suspended state) and take up no cpu or battery. Pandora is a background state app so it will continue to work in the background.

and the fact that there is no app drawer, only 3 screens, etc

Exactly!! I had it down between the ip4 and TB. There's this kid at work that has an ip4 and he let me play with it and I asked him if he did something to his phone cause it only has 3 screen!? He said "no". I really wanted the phone to impress me, but i felt no love. The screen is awesome though.

Yeah I just called Verizon to find out any info on the TBolt and when I asked the dude about the Droid Incredible he flat out told me:

1) We are no longer carrying the Droid Incredible. You may be able to get it online but that stock is rapidly depleting. A new version of it is coming out soon (??).

2) If you want the Thunderbolt WAIT before you buy the Droid X. The X is only being carried for about another 3-4 weeks and it is also being phased out. You will see agressive advertising with low pricing like we did for the Incredible.

3) (in regards to the Thunderbolt release): Verizon manager: I am purely speculating BUT... all I can say is very very soon. Me: This month? Verizon manager: Again, very very soon.

Sooooo yeah - interesting O.o
