Root Best way to backup existing contacts?

After months of trying to convince my wife to let me root her phone, she finally caved and gave me the go ahead.

She's high-maintenance when it comes to her phone, and I don't want to lose any of her information during the rooting process. What will be the best way for me to backup her existing contacts? Is there an app like titanium that works with contacts?

As long as her contacts are Saved to her Google and not Phone, once the device is Rooted, and she signs into her Google Account when she Boots it, it will automatically Sync her contacts right back to her phone. Pictures and all.

Yeah, my concern is that she may not have saved all of her contacts to her Google account. If she did then I'm good to go, but I'm looking for a way to back them up as a precaution.

I'd also recommend using Verizon's Backup Assistant as a secondary backup, just in case. It's in the account settings.

Ok, I've never used it but ill check it out. Thanks.

I also considered using the HTC Sync program on my desktop PC. Ill be rooting from my laptop, which doesn't have the software installed.

I use an App called Lookout. It's a great multi-purpose app that scans all downloaded apps for viruses, backs up all your contacts and pictures to an online database, and uses your GPS logs to find where your phone is if you lose it. It's all free. All that you have to do is create an account so that you can access the backed-up files online. I highly reccommend it!

Sounds interesting. Ill give it a look. Thanks!

There is a function in the Contacts to Import/Export your contacts to the SD Card. I recommend you do this, then save the file on your computer. You can then either import these contacts into Google via your computer or once rooted, place the file back on the SD Card and import them back into your Contacts. I personally recommend the Google way, a little of work upfront, but if something ever happens to her phone, at least her contacts are all saved in Google for easy transferring between phones!!! Good Luck!!:D

That is exactly what I did with my son's phone contacts. He never used Google contacts to sync, although they are now, but I did the export to the SD card and then imported them back into contacts once I got Redemption installed. Once you're satisfied that the phone is working fine it's easy to import that backup from her SD card into Google contacts. There are two options, one is a CSV file and another is a Vcard. The export from contacts is the vCard option.

I personally prefer using Verizon's Backup Assistant. If you log into MyVerizon, mouse over the Messaging tab and select Contacts. Then, just click on the sync button.

Some of the reasons I prefer to use Verizon's Backup Assistant vs. other methods...

1. You can add, delete, edit, and organize your contacts. (I usually do the initial add on my phone, then edit the info online.)

2. You can delete contacts in bulk. (Not sure why you would need to, but you can.)

3. WAY easier and faster to edit and organize your contacts.

4. TRASH FOLDER!!!! This allows you to easily INDIVIDUALLY restore a contact that you may have accidentally deleted. (Other methods always give me duplicated contacts which I then have to spend time deleting)

I hope this helps! :)
