Best way to backup...

What's the best way to backup my HTC desire data to PC (not to SD card)? Is there any software which offers this backup and then restore facility?

I use astro to backup my apps to microsd, then manually copy the contents of the card to my pc after connecting the phone in usb drive mode.

there is also a program stored on the sd card that installs HTC sync on your pc, which allows you to sync contacts and apps etc, but I havent had much luck with it so far as it couldnt see my email progran to get contacts from it.

Thanks, but apart from HTC sync software, I am looking for something similar to Nokia PC Suite where I can easily take/create a backup point/file which has my contacts, SMS's and more importantly my phone settings, profile. So in case I reset not only phone but lost my data on SD card, then I should be able to restore everything

It sounds like Carsn's suggestion is the best one available if you don't want to use HTC Sync, which does not backup sms, settings etc. Another option would be MyBackup Pro in the market.

use titanium backup if you have rooted
it backs up apps + data
then use someting like sms backup + restore for your sms backups :)

Used MyBackUp over the weekend after upgrading the rom to the modaco custom rom. Worked like a charm while restoring stuff back after the reflash.
But the modaco custom rom comes with Titanium backup and i have heard enough great things about it... so have backed up my apps+data with it.
