Help Best way to delete contacts

Hello Forum -

I am trying to simply delete a lot of contacts at once on my phone (Atrix). Ideally I am trying to delete many contacts on a site on spreadsheet if that is possible. I have about 4000 contacts (many of which are for work) but need to a way to delete over 1000 of them easily (it is too monotonous to do it on the phone).

Thank you in advance for any ideas! HankAtrix

Synch with your GMail account (If you don't have a Gmail, get one for this reason alone).

Go into the contacts app on the phone, go into settings, and under "Contact Storage" - choose gmail.

This will back them up on the Gmail web site.
Go into contacts there. You can go through and check and delete them in batches.
OR, you can EXPORT them to a spreadsheet from the gmail site.
Do what you want with the spreadsheet. Then, wipe out all the contacts on Gmail (This should wipe them off the phone) and RE-import the corrected spreadsheet into Gmail.

Give it a little while with each step. BIG changes (Lots of contacts at once) can take up to an hour to synch between the phone and gmail.
So, once you turn on the storage to gmail, it could take an hour or more with 4,000 contacts.
Then, when you purge them all from gmail, it could take another hour or more for them to clear off the phone.
And, yet another hour or more for the updated import back to gmail.

That didn't end up working for some reasons (the phone only brought over about 50 contacts to Gmail).

Please let me know if you have any other ideas? Thanks

Try using the phone portal.

Start the phone portal app on your phone. (you have to have WiFi on)
Then, on your PC's browser, browse to the address displayed on the phone. (This works best in IE, some features are disabled in FireFox.)

In the phone portal within your browser, you can export and import your contacts. I don't have the step by step as I've not done it, I just remember seeing it in there.

You will have to play with it and see if you can figure it out.
