Best way to market a android application?

Hi guys!

I'm about to release my first Android app and I have experience in marketing iOS applications, but I don't know what sites/forums that are good for Android app marketing?

Also I am looking for a beta-testing platform so I can find Android-beta testers? Any ideas?

Thanks!
Nils

These forums are pretty good for finding beta testers. But you won't find many volunteers without providing details of what you're testing. As for advertising, I think AppBrain does reviews. It's definitely a shotgun approach to advertise here. I browse AndroidTapp.com occasionally to see what's out there, as well, but there are a number of websites.

*One of* the best ways to market an app is to add explanatory text to the permissions descriptions, without being so formal about it (like you would if you were explaining it verbally). Let people think there is an honest Dev on the project.

I think the permissions descriptions is something that let's Android down. It's still difficult to decipher what, exactly, these permissions are needed for. Most of the time they are there because the app simply requires a particular function to erm, function. Unfortunately there are one or two malicious apps, or ones that have permissions that seem unnecessary for that particular app, arousing suspicion of the user.

The permission descriptions are auto-generated.

Fortunately, there is a very honest dev out there who went right in and addressed the problem -

PocketPermissions by alostpacket :)

PS - I've written devs or asked on our forums when they've started support threads exactly WHY they implemented the privileges they did - and the answers have quickly revealed the honest and the questionable.

Quite right to question permissions, glad you brought that up!
