Root Best way to restore apps and data.

So I'm kind new to the whole rooting process, but I did it and got CM7 on my phone. I want to try MIUI, but I'm not sure how to go about getting all of my apps and data once I have set it up.

I know some people talk about titanium backup, but I'm not sure how that works (can't seem to find any detail about it)

Also heard about restore from Clockwork Recovery, but unsure about that as well.

I've been using Titanium Backup for a while and haven't found anything that beats it.
You can find some documentation at these locations:

This is a tutorial on using titanium backup:
How To Backup and Restore Your Android Phone with Titanium Backup - How-To Geek

Also if you have ClockWork Recovery you can make a backup of your phones present state by going to "Backup and Restore" in the main menu then choosing "backup". Restore with the same process expect choose "restore".

To restore just your apps you go to the "advanced" option under "Backup and Restore". Then choosing the backup that you made. Then choosing the "restore data" option should restore your apps and data.

Note: The backup gets stored on your sd card under /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/ if you delete it its gone

Thanks for the quick response guys. I tried titanium backup and it worked fine, but after messing with MIUI for all of ten minutes I decided I wanted to go back to CM7 lol.

But I appreciate the help.

Wow appextractor seems really great. If I ever get the desire to try a new Rom I'll deff give that a shot.

I got AppExtractor and I tried restoring all of my apps from it. It gave me the error "Unable to generate APK listing". I also tried an older backup just in case and it did the same thing. I might go back to CM7 anyways. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've used Appextractor and it worked perfectly for me.

The only gripe I have is that it doesn't restore SMS from MIUI to CM7 (or vice versa) but I know that's not the apps fault, and just how the roms work.

use sms backup and install and backup right before you flash a new rom and the re install the app after you install the new rom and run the restore and all texts are back,
love this app

oops, SMS Backup & Restore

That's what I've done. I just would prefer it to be in one app lol.
