I will be getting some kind of higher end tablet in the next month. I am curious as to how I should treat the battery. Should I always top off the battery, i.e. plug it in every night, or should I left the battery wind down to 0% and then charge it? Is there some kind of "conditioning" recommended for a new tablet/battery? My goal is to optimize the life of the battery.

My years of experience with batteries of my phones tells: Enjoy your new tablet and don't think about its Li-Ion battery
