Help Best Wi-Fi Performance?

Just wondering if anyone knows what turning this feature on really does? I have recently upgraded from the DInc 1 to the 2. I had the same issue with the 1 as I did with the 2, which is that when I was connected to Wi-Fi and the screen went off, all data went off. I was able to download an app as a workaround. It took it about 20 seconds to kick in, but it worked for the original DInc. It was fine for e-mail notifications, but for downloading or playing Pandora, it meant that I had to keep the screen on.

Fast forward to the DInc 2. Same issue. Instead of downloading an app to remedy the situation, I have checked the "Best Wi-Fi Performance" box under Advanced. There is no break at all from when I turn the screen from on to off. Problem solved...sort of.

I have just rooted the phone (Unrevoked method) and flashed the CM7.1 Stable ROM because I loved the performance of the phone with CM. Battery life is better, less lag when transitioning screens. Unfortunately, the issue is back because it doesn't have a checkbox for "Best Wi-Fi Performance", so therefore, when the screen goes off, so does the data. And I tried several apps like I did with the DInc 1 as a workaround, but none of them worked at all.

As such, I flashed GingerBangSense ROM and have checked the "Best Wi-Fi Performance" box and all is well. And just to make this message longer than it already is, just an FYI, the Quadrant scores were the following (approximately):
Stock & Unrooted: 1448
CM7.1 Stable: 2051
GingerBangSense: 1550

There is considerably more lag with Sense, so I would like to stay with CM, but it is a no-go if data shuts off when the screen is off.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue or if they could offer any help. Thanks in advance.

Best WiFi performance is a battery killer, and I cannot find an improvement when using it.....so I don't.

What's your WiFi sleep policy set to?

I wish I didn't have to use it, but unfortunately, if I didn't I would either have a data-less phone or just keep 3G on at all times.

The Wi-fi Sleep Policy is set to "Never".

My wifi doesn't turn off when the screen is off.. Neither did my inc 1.

Did the phone do this from the beginning or after some changed settings?

The improved wifi, like stated above, is a battery killer and from what I can tell doesn't provide any noticeable improvement

I cannot even replicate your problem. It seems incredible unlikely that you have a completely unique issue on two phones. Does this happen with all wifi networks?

My test is usually to find out what IP my phone was given and just to ping it when the screen is on vs when it is off. It comes back as "Request Timed Out" when the screen is off and I don't have the "Best Wi-fi Performance" turned on. Though, I have not tried this on another network yet. I would expect that it isn't my network because my Blackberry never had this issue. Just so happens that I am the lucky one to have this issue with both Incredibles. Lucky me :-(

But to answer some of your questions, I don't believe I changed any of the settings originally. Just ran the test out of the box because that was one of the lingering issues I had with the DInc 1. So, this has been an issue since I got the phone (both the DInc 1 and 2).

I do appreciate all the help and suggestions though. Maybe I completely overlooked something. There are a bunch of my friends that didn't even know about the Wi-fi Sleep Policy.

The real-world issue I have is when I am connected to wi-fi at home and do not check the "Best Wi-Fi Performance" and have the screen off, I will not receive any e-mails, gchats, or Google Voice texts, downloads from the Marketplace/Google Play will be broken (if started while screen was on), Scramble/Words with Friends will not notify me that it is my turn, and Pandora will not stream. The first 3 are the ones I find the most crucial.

I'm with hilmar2k. I don't think it's an issue with the phone. When I am at home I use WiFi only. My emails and Words With Friends come through just fine. I don't use Google Voice or gchat. Any apps I have set to auto update come through fine.

I'm wondering if there is a setup issue between your phone and router.
