Help Better on screen keyboard?

thanks for bumping this! finally found a GREAT T9 for the moment... and just when I had almost lost all hope :) works like a charm coupled with handcent... btw, you have to enable Touch Input and select that keyboard instead of Android Keyboard... hope that helps...

Yes it does, it has it's fair share of problems, but it works.

I can induce a forceclose many many ways on it:
-By holding the backspace key
-By double tapping unrecognized words (words I tapped in over swiping them in) will do it occasionally
-landscape mode occasionally FC's
-moderate to lengthy words (more than 7 characters) it usually will FC with

There's a few others, but other than that it's more responsive than shapewriter, along with having a more polished look on it.

Wow, thanks man. I was expecting to get it off XDA, but just tried searching the marketplace, and it was there. I'm not sure how that flies, legally, but it works great! I wonder if it's the same version you have-- FYI (On Moment, of course), I do not get FC's from Holding Backspace, landscape mode, or lengthy words.

quick question about handcent, just feel free to answer if you know it:

Does anyone know how to cancel a message if you accidentally click send?

I still miss the Letter Recognizer "keyboard" from my PocketPC days. It didn't take me very long to be quite fast and accurate with it, perhaps even quicker than using the Moment's hardware keyboard. It needed the stylus, but I expect that something similar could be done for finger input too.

It's just some way to try to minimalize the distance you have to move your finger to get to a key/letter. Honestly, the only application I can see it being useful for is cell phones, and maybe a netbook, albeit a a really really tiny netbook (maybe near PDA size or something....). A normal keyboard isn't that hard to learn to type on, if you have patience.

I remember using FITALY on my palm V.
If it's just a layout your looking for, they're pretty simple to make. Got FITALY on my Nexus One. I'm no programmer and I was to get this simple one running over my lunch break..

Cheers

If that is stable, any way you can make whatever files are needed available? That *should* be plug and play with the Moment with 1.5 no?

The tap-tap is another alternate that looked good, but it doesn't run on the Moment.

While I compiled for the Nexus (2.1) I don't think any of the resources used are specific to that and it should work just fine on 1.5 but I can't test - I know it works fine on my son's Cliq (1.6).

I've used Tap-Tap and it's a decent solution as well but I had history on the FITALY so thats what I use.

Let me recompile and send you the link in a PM.

Hey, if you guys haven't checked it out, Swype just became available as a public beta (after some controversy). I had the version that was 'floating around'.. actually got it off the market. I upgraded to this one yesterday, and it's actually much better. I registered on the site: Swype | Text Input for Screens, then they send u a link to the installation file.

Btw, I had to restart my phone after installing.. that got it working.
I can't go back to any other keyboard..

just installed this and it is very interesting

I recommend keeping with it. there was a steep learning curve, but seriously, it kills me to tap on the keyboard now.

Woah, Swype is amazing! :eek::eek:

Been "forcing" myself to use the touch screen keyboard occasionally to try and get used to it, so I am not forced to stay with physical keyboard phones should I decided to replace my Moment someday. It hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be, in some ways with the word suggestions it's easier.

..but this Swype is awesome. Not even that it's a good keyboard replacement, the swiping is cool as hell!:p

I downloaded swype last night...and it may just be my imagination but it seems to be a battery drain. Anyone else notice this or is it just my mind playing tricks on me?

I will have to pay a little more attention to this. I don't know for sure. I will try and keep an eye on this tomorrow.

SlideIT Keyboard

This app rocks. I suppose it is like the SWIPE keyboard, but I have never used that one.

This keyboard learns your custom entries and you can build a library of websites and email addreses, etc. Though, some of the advanced dictionary stuff like saving bulk sets of words is reserved for the paid version.

I fid myself almost never opening the slider to access the physical keyboard anymore and it was my biggest reason fo going with the Moment. Well, that and the beautiful screen and the flash for the camera.
