Better way to open notifications?

I keep hitting the weather clock thing instead of opening the notifications. Is there a way I can have my notifications be a program shortcut instead with a count like a mail application exists.

hit menu and select Notifications

i just drag it down in the top left corner not the middle. i never hit the weather

if you slide your finger from above. Think starting onto of the verizon logo you won't have this problem.

Now if only I can get a Google Voice widget that will show me what SMS I received.
