Root BEWARE - Fast Boot + Battery changing

Ok, some of us worry about battery life, some a little, some remind me of an old man trying to get another .2MPG outta his 454 by driving 45 on the freeway. Personally, I PAID for the $600 mini-computer in my pocket, and I pay dearly for service to it, so I'm gonna run it til the wheels fall off, and get every bit of productivity I can out of it, battery be damned. Also, I have discovered the batteries from China that are 2 for $14 w/charger to be an excellent deal. I leave the house in the morning with no less than 5 to 7 charged batteries in my pocket, plus one in the chamber. I am a "battery changer". My phone RARELY sees a cord, EVER.

I have been rooted since the day I got the phone over a year ago. I wanted free tethering. That's it. Only recently have I started playing with ROMS. I never had fast boot until Gingerbread, and even then didnt know what it was, and never activated it on my stock ROM. However, after I got Gingerbread, (which is what forced me to learn how to flash a new ROM to begin with), I decided to check out others. I like Swagged. It comes with fast boot 'on' by default. I immediately noticed when I turn the phone off, without pulling the battery, no white screen and vibrate on power-up. I also began having MAJOR stability issues. For the last month, I've had to re-flash a dozen times, due to random craziness. Turn off fast boot, problem solved.

The moral of this story - If you are a 'battery changer', fast boot is not for you. The phone is not off, it is sleeping. Jerking the battery while it's in this state is the equivelent to jerking the power cord on your PC while it's running. No, it doesnt USUALLY cause a problem, but it can, and so you dont do it often. The 2 - 4 times a day I change batteries is often. And I also dont think they figure there will be that many reasons to pull the battery, so they haven't spent a whole lot of time designing the OS to survive spontaneous power loss.

As a side note - If you're not rooted and need them to replace the phone under warranty, scratches and such, if you jerk the battery 4 - 5 times a day, I doubt very much that you would make it two weeks before you hose the OS bad enough that they'll replace it. Haven't tried it, but seems logical.

I'm not aware of anyone having problems due to battery pulls, but if you have any other information on the subject I'm sure quite a lot of people would be interested in it.

my wife's phone has a broken charger port so she changes her battery 2 times a day with no problems. She has Runnymed xl beta 2 with freedom kernal on hers. She has every widget you can think of on hers so her battery doesnt last too long, lol!

I guess the question then, is does she just yank the battery running, or let the phone shut down before changing? I too, find no issues if I shut down. But if I get in a hurry and just start yanking the battery, it's not long before gremlins start showing up... Sometimes, they fix themselves again before I have time to do anything about it, like whatever was damaged was due for an update anyway or something. But other times, it's more serious.

Do you have any specifics besides 'germlins'? I really haven't seen anyone post anything at all about problems from battery pulls (which is widely done on smart phones [iphone excluded for obvious reasons]).
I think there are a lot of people pulling batteries, who'd probably stop if there were known issues. You may be the "Typhoid Mary" of the battery pull problem...? ;)
