Help Beyond Economical Repair

Normally that would be the end of it. Can't fix it, throw it, right?

Well, thanks to a little foresight the ol' Chief bought a 3-year SquareTrade warranty on the gTablet when he bought it new in 2010... and with just three weeks left on the warranty, they've determined that they can't fix it! FULL REFUND! :D

They've already repaired it once for the same issue (won't charge); but today I got the email I've been waiting to see: parts are either unavailable or too expensive and SquareTrade is going to cash it out. And they don't pro-rate: when they refund, it's what you paid for it to begin with. JACKPOT! Let's face it: it's a dog of a tablet anyway, especially compared to the Note 10.1-2014 that Darling Bride just got for her birthday.

She's been wanting a Moto X, so as soon as the money hits this week, she's getting her new phone to replace the aging Galaxy S3.

BYE BYE, gTABLET!

This was not necessarily a plug for SquareTrade, but just a friendly encouragement that sometimes extended warranties pay off. It's great insurance: you hope you don't need it but it's great to have if you do :)

Do you have to send them the device? If not open it up and fix those cold soler joints on the charging port and have your gtablet back.

Mine's got the same problem but I've been too lazy to fix it. I just put something under the charger tip which pushes the broken solder joint back together. ;)

I agree about it being a dog though... I have a TF101 as well and even though they're both similarly clocked Tegra 2 10.1 inch tablets the TF beats the snot out of the gtab every time. Maybe it's a question of RAM but I don't think that's the only difference.
