Is nobody else put off by the size of the bezel on the razr? I was all set on getting it but the more I see it the more I tend to agree with reviews like this one: http://ausdroid.net/2011/11/02/motorola-razr-review/
This review also agrees that while it is thinner it is wide to the point of being uncomfortable to hold: http://delimiter.com.au/2011/11/04/motorola-razr-review/

To me the large amount of bezel makes it look quite dated and cheap? Its a pity because I love nearly everything else about this device. If only they had filled out the excessive empty spaces on the front of the device with more screen to make it a 4.4"/4.5" device
Thinking I'll probably just wait for the Razr 2?
 
Bezel? Sorry man...I disagree! Just about that whole phone is screen.

If your referring to the bottom of the phone, there needs to be some space for the capacitive buttons, and some space up top for the ear piece. Around the sides there is almost no space at all...Pretty much all screen.
 
Just looked at a pic of it side by side with the Galaxy Nexus...almost the same amount of space on the sides.

Looks like a ton of screen real estate on both if you ask me.

Very minor! Reason why it looks like that on a Samsung is because of the deeeeep blacks and the way the screen cuts in.

With a Samsung it looks as if there is no bezel at all...In reality there is, they just do a great job of hiding it.

Perfect example is to take a look at an iphone 4 in black, and then in white. They look like 2 different screen sizes...in reality they're not. Its just the deep black color of the phone hiding the bezel.

At the moment, I see no flaws on the looks or appearance of the phone. Its a sleek device indeed.

However...moto cameras are so suspect, it remains to be seen if its the same crappy camera software as the Bionic. If it is, moto can keep they're sexy device IMO.

^^^Probably. They gotta put all that stuff somewhere.

Also, compared to the SGS2, at least to my eyes, the difference looks almost negligible.

And finally, because of the direction of the chamfers on the corners of the phone, it deceptively makes the phone look a little taller/longer in the direction of said "large bezel".

I don't think the bezel is too much at all. That's why I pre-ordered it :) (Well, part of the reason, anyway.)
 
No way around a slightly wider bezel, since has external access microsd on very slim device. The guts are a smashed Bionic. Like anything you smash, it is flatter and wider. Think Mr. Bill.

Having the extra space for the nav buttons means less accidental exits from apps.
 
3 problems with the bezel IMO.

1) It's too thick
2) Looks cheap (plastic)
3) Alignment with glass (dust/lint gets trapped in the divot)

I agree with your third point. I HATE trapped dust in between the screen. It drives me crazy. I'm still going to get the RAZR, but the dust thing might be a problem though.

EVERY phone has flaws. EVERY single one. You just have to make your decision RE: what phone to get by weighing EVERYTHING about the phone (Pros and Cons/"flaws").

I'm not going to base my decision on whether to get a particular phone based on the size of the bezel. No offense, but that is not a "flaw".

RAZR Pros and Cons/"flaws" (IMO, based on specs, reviews, etc.)

Pros:
Beautiful 4.3" screen
1.2 GHz Dual-Core
Micro-SD Card slot
HDMI out
Motocast
Smart Actions
High-Quality build (materials, thinness, weight, etc.)
Will be upgraded to ICS
Accessories

Cons:
Camera quality/speed MAY be suspect (not proven in real world use)
Bezel (doesn't matter to me but adding it anyway since that is what this thread is about)
Built-in battery

Sorry, but for me those three Cons are not going to outweigh that list of Pros. For example, I care more about the having a MicroSD card slot, HDMI out, Motocast/Smart Actions, and a quality build than having a bezel that might be too big (subject to opinion) and a non-removeable battery. Camera will be fine for taking pics when I don't have my actual camera with me.

Since most are trying to decide between this and the Galaxy Nexus, I went with the RAZR because the Pros/Cons of the RAZR far outweigh the Pros/Cons of GN (for me).
 
I agree with mrjingleusa. You have to find a phone that has lots of features you need and want and the fewest possible flaws AND they have to be flaws you can live with and work around. Just like real life, if everyone was seeking perfection in everything... 1)No one would ever buy a car 2)No one would ever buy a house 3)No one would ever get a job 4)The human race would go extinct because boys and girls would find something wrong with every potential mate and use it as a lame excuse to not procreate.

If you can't live with it, don't buy it.
 
Personally, I think the phone is beautiful and I'm thinking the bezel size is related to the build quality. I tend to keep my phones a long time, so I'm all about Moto build quality. My OG Droid just got eaten by a rather large dog about 2 weeks ago, but even though there were canine dents in the back, the glass in the front wasn't even cracked. Phone was still toast, but I think that was slobber damage :D.

Someone once wrote about the OG Droid that it "felt like a gun in my hand", and I agree. My D2 didn't have that feel, but it seems like that's what Moto's going for in the DRZ.

I personally can't wait to heft that bad boy!

You have to remember that it's all subjective (I'm sure you do), it all depends on the eye of the beholder. Personally I don't like the look of the Razr either, but that's just my opinion.

And how does that make the phone less of a performer? Does it slow it down? Does it make the screen resolution not high enough?

The phone was designed the way it was for a reason - putting all the guts in the very thin body. If you are a designer and know how to put all the insides of a smartphone like that into a case as thin as that with a 4.3" screen and much narrower, please let Motorola know, maybe they will hire you.

You made it quite clear that not being happy with the size of the bezel was a ridiculous problem to have with the phone :rolleyes:

Exactly what I meant. Bezel size is THE last thing I will ever worry about.

It is simply wide, the phone is wide and that is how it was designed.
