BGR -Verizon Wireless Motorola DROID X selling out, activation issues

I got to my local store at 8- they opened at 9. I was the first one there but by 9 there were 5 of us lined up-- the store had 10. Small town Verizon corporate kiosk in BJ's. The local "authorized dealer" was only getting 3.

No activation issues and I moved some numbers around. I got the phone for $330 on a one year contract -$100 rebate. Not bad I thought.

use the xtreme labs one is more accurate or you can use 3gtest from the market this one tells you if you have ports and stuff blocked by default too

I'm home now (little town of Harrisburg) and it says:
Speed Test
download: 437 kbps
upload: 241 kbps

3gtest took a while....got some errors and not sure what you want from here...it gives me several things.

We went out for dinner by Concord Mills (right behind Verizon) so I tried it again over there and it was much faster of course.
download was almost 1800 and upload was just under 800 (or 900, I don't remember for sure)

Ugh...after a day of looking at my co-workers DX I think I'm going to cancel my recently places DINC order and get the DX. I live in Charlotte, NC. What are the chances they have any in stock? I am going out of town tomorrow morning for a few days and wanna get the phone now!!!

Chance is 0. I live in Charlotte as well and there are none. I had to order mine over the phone this morning after Best Buy wouldn't honor my early upgrade.

Verizon site now says 7/23 for any new orders.

Then (if date is correct) VZW and Motorola are either liars, or incompetent, since they said there were plenty and they would not run out for launch week. If they pull the classic "demand was higher than we thought" shtick, I may heave due to the odor of BS. That would make them look like rubes.

Verizon usually posts promise dates, so units should be earlier than 7/23.

I thought they said launch day not week? Who knows I am glad I got in last night and did not hesitate so I have 30 days to figure things out (darn bootloader).

I didn't have any issues buying my X. Activated it when I got home and everything seemed fine.. I've had to call *228 three times now tho because randomly I keep getting the "can't authenticate your phone" or something like that when placing a call.

Dang! I'm in the suburbs of Phoenix (AZ) and just ran Speet Test. It tells me that my download speed is 5800 kbps while my upload speed is 89kbps. What a difference two thousand miles makes! lol

Here's my story...
I called yesterday to inquire about store opening times, she said normal store hours, 10am 'til 8pm. I asked about Droid X inventory, she said they had a list and had just about all spoken for. I asked about my chances of getting one if I came in about 11-11:30am? She said we can order one for you and you should get it by Monday. Told her I prefer to get it at the store, I can see the phone I'm getting, make sure it's working, not broken, etc.

I arrived at the store (here in Hawaii) about 11:20am. Put my name on the list. Waited about 25-30 minutes and they called my name. Turned out it was the same girl I talked to on the phone the day before. She remembered me by my name. (Dirk.... somewhat unusual) Anyway, asked what my chances were of getting a Droid X today. She said excellent, we have some. She brought one out and I picked a bunch of accessories, ie car charger, desk dock, car dock, leather pouch, clear case, screen protectors, and extra wall charger. Then the guy that was getting my accessories together said I got the last one.... I don't think that was true but didn't question him. If you look back, the girl I was dealing with said we have SOME. One of them was mistaken, but I guess it could have been either one.

So far, what little I've played with it, it's very smooth and fast, and I really like it. Mailing my MIR tomorrow.

No longer am I, Patiently/Impatiently waiting for the release of the Droid X

Hawaii rocks! I stayed at the Waikoloa Hilton once and then toured around the main island :)

I know where that is. We bought a car there several years back and the salesman sent us to Captain Steve's Fish Camp for dinner. Delish!! We still drive over there to eat once in a while.
