Root Big Difference in Data Speeds

HERE IS A QUICK STEP BY STEP IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH ALL THE STUFF ON THE OTHER FORUM:

REQUIRED TOOLS/SOFTWARE:

Motorola Triumph USB cable- Others may work but this cable was designed for use with the phone, use it if possible.
Stock Phone Driver- Found on the phone when connected via USB. This driver should be installed before attempting any modifications.
QPST 2.7 Build 366- This is what I use, other versions may work as well.
Sprint PRL 01115- This is the latest version of the Sprint PRL and includes the most recently added towers. Using another carriers PRL might eventually allow the Triumph to be used on another carrier if you can get the ESN added to that carriers database, but that's another issue that I'll leave for someone else to test down the road. Just use the Sprint PRL.
MotoConnect- Not technically required but makes the detection process easier due to notification windows.
NOTE: Phone does not need to be rooted to complete this guide.

HOW TO SWAP YOUR PRL:

First things first, make sure you have the required software and drivers installed and that they appear to be working correctly.

Now its time to get your MSL. Thanks goes to mmarz over at XDA for originally discovering this method.

1. Log into your Virgin Mobile account.
2. Click this link.
3. Although you get a 404 error page, search the page for "msl:"
4. The six numbers after msl: are your MSL code. Write them down.

Now that you have your MSL I suggest you put it into a notepad document and save it.

The next step is to identify what COM ports your particular computer uses to connect with the Triumph. Open your device manager on your computer and expand the

I was going to try this because my data speeds are really shotty. I got through everything except acquiring my MSL. The second step says "Click this link" except there is no link. I'm surprised no one has said anything yet, unless I am off my rocker and missed something. Thanks for all the help and moving forward to fix the problems Motorola has caused :P

I finally tracked down the sought after elusive new 11114 PRL but live out in fringe territory so I haven`t had a lot of opportunity to test it out. Anyone else tried 11114 in comparison to 01115? I`m curious if there is any benefit of it over the older one for us VM users

Where? Where did you find it? I can't find that one, OR the 01120

I poked around google and several forums for about 15 minutes and ran across it finally. I loaded it to my phone shortly there after, but am not in an area with much 3g coverage period. I didn`t take note of where I got it from however :-(

I'm guessing that updating your PRL is only going to help if there has been a change to your specific Geographic Area (i.e. Find your current PRL and compare to your new PRL or view the changes page). Otherwise you're just jumping through hoops and I doubt changing the PRL is going to help you except in your mind. :D

Regards,

Im glad to see this working for people. Im loving streaming video now. ANyways whats the deal with the 11114 PRL? Why is it elusive??

Where is the "prop.build" file we are talking about? I see a "build.prop" file in the /system/ folder... is that the one you are talking about?

I just moved the line ro.product.rat=EvDo only up with the rest of the ro.product lines, rebooted, and with 0119 I am now getting 1087 down, and 634 up

Apparently it is only being sent out to a chosen handful of business clients. Thus it is not out in the wild and posted as often.

I read over at HowardForum that PRL 11114 allows us to roam on VZW 3G towers. Post #15 at Latest Sprint PRL thread I'm curious what others think/feel about that, assuming this is true.

Even if you swap PRLs, you can't roam with virgin mobile. The main differences between PRLs are the roaming towers and that is why swapping PRLs probably doesn't help at all for a virgin mobile phone.

I just did the ro.product.rat=EvDo only edit of the /system/build.prop file. I did a speedtest just prior with a rather slow 253 kbps. Then edited the file, rebooted, and got a score of 653 kbps, which is significant.

Using PRL 01115 at the moment, but will try 01120 a little later, although tempted to try 11114.

I have no clue why the positioning of the EvDo line would do anything but I put it up with the other Product lines like you said and Ill be damned if my speed isnt constantly faster now. I tried to do a video chat which I was never able to do in my office before I made the change. Once I changed it I was able to chat. Im not going say it was a perfect chat i did get pause and my kid said my voice was robotic but I was able to chat.

I have been using 01120 since I posted this the other day but now Im curious to try 11114. I dunno its working soo good right now I would hate to mess it up. I guess it all depends where you live. So what might work well for me wont work the same for others

honestly forget the speed test. Do your ouwn test stream video or music to see if you notice any breaks. I dunno if you guys have notice but speed test lie. Or they tell me what I could be getting rather what I am getting. My home ineternet on speed test says I get 20mb but when i download with my accelerator I only get high 3's or low 4's mb. Its still fast as hell, but not what the speed test is showing me.

I stream on my half hour drive in and back from work daily.... I didn't notice a difference... I'm sorry..... It may just be my area.

:-) I changed my prl tonight to 60680 and left the notation in the build.prop file...

UPDATED****
8/18-- I've been testing out the new prl (60680) pretty heavily. My usual dead spots have been virtually non-existant (if not gone) with this prl and the build.prop edit. No speed tests have been done-- my testing is streaming-- I know where it doesn't usually work, where it's a dead area, and where it's decent. I'm a happy camper.

I'm located in SE Florida if that makes a difference to whomever is down here!
