Root Big Difference in Data Speeds

Found an issue that is repeatable on my unit.

Turn on GPS, open Google Maps and start search for some area. Everytime I do a search (get directions for some thing), after 30 seconds my 3G will disconnect and 1X will enable. Lasts for about 1 minute the 3G will reconnect for a bit (~30 sec) then disconnect with 1X coming back.
Any ideas?

I have to say, after having done this mod, the transfer speeds are noticeably faster. Signal doesn't look like it's improved at all so far. This is also the only way I've seen 1X come up on the phone, otherwise it has been pretty stable.

PRL 60685

I stumbled across yet another Sprint PRL (60711) which I loaded on my MT this morning and have used all day. I am in central Florida near Orlando. While at work I ran a speed test which gave me 743kbps down/352kbps up. My connection at work hovered around -67 to -74db depending upon if I was in a building or outside. I've attached the PRL to this post for others to test it.

So far I've tried 01114, 01115, 01119 and 01120 which all were worse than the stock PRL on my MT in the area I'm in. I was running 60685 on my MT very successfully prior to 60711.

I have noticed that setting my MT to EvDo only causes me to completely loose connection at home and some areas at work. Setting it to CDMA\EvDo maintains my 3G connection. I'm running CM7 Reloaded on the MT which has those choices in the Settings. Putting it in my build.prop seemed to have no effect.

Ran a test with Open Signal Maps this morning using PRL 60711, the results are attached. Although I'm showing 1 bar and OSM is saying my signal strength is -105db my speeds were pretty good. 874kbps down - 356kbps up. The odd thing is that OSM reports the connection as GSM which has me a bit confused. The MT is CDMA...

My phone no longer receives or sends texts.
I was running CM9 0.6.10.2. I flashed [ROM]Bone Stock & Stock Deodex ROM's Triumph-Now Resets Splash.img!! - xda-developers to return my phone to stock. Once I got the MSL and everything, I put a couple different PRLs on there to see which had the best connection. However, I noticed I wasn't receiving any texts. I could still make and receive calls, and data was working fine, but no sms. I flashed my backup of CM9 that I made earlier today, before the stock rom. Still nothing. I flashed BACK to the stock rom, where it says my PRL is still the stock one. However, I am still not getting texts.

Yeah, texting has stopped working for me too. I flashed 60711 and texting stopped working, even when I went back to 60685. I always used the stock rom and QPST for changing the PRL. I currently have CM7-TG (newest) installed. Mobile network settings are as follows:
Data enabled
international data roaming unenabled
national data roaming enabled (I have toggled this several times)
Network preferences CDMA/EvDo
System select automatic
*#*#4636#*#* Phone info "Set preferred network type:" is set to CDMA auto PRL

Any help would be greatly appreciated

EDIT: also btw, what is the newest PRL file and where can it be downloaded?
Edit #2: out of the dozen or so texts I sent to myself (directly or through google voice), one of them just came back, so texting works 1/12 of the time or so...? who knows...

I don't think the text problem is related to your PRL swapping, my wife and I both had that problem all day today. After a few calls to VM customer support we found out they were working on something and were aware of the issue.
Just now receiving texts from this morning, they're trickling in slowly anyway.

Yeah, I also am starting to get texts again.

I have an entirely different question though. In custom roms, will a new PRL show up in the About Phone menu?

Depends on the rom. All of the froyo based roms should show it. Cm7 will. Cm9 will not. Don't know about any of the others.

been working on this.

just noticed the stock rom I just flased doesnt have root access...are you f'king kidding me! Its from XDA/brandons. Like do i really need to use those "Tool" whatever root hack or can I use gingerbreak apk? man this is frustrating.

Edit: Sorry to rage but ive spent 2 hours on this. Also I expected the stock rom (diodexed ) to be rooted. my bad but there is no warning of that, that I saw.

This might be a little off topic here but would it be possible to change the PRL on a Simple Mobile phone (T-Mobile - GSM) to get better data speeds? I heard the data on Simple Mobile wasn't that great but if I could change it the PRL to get better data speeds and get Talk, Text, & Data for unlimited for only $40/month, that would be great!

I'm currently on the 300 min $35/month plan on VM and am fine with it, but the Simple Mobile everything unlimited for $40 sure is tempting!!

For the latest PRL files I used corolada[dot]com/prl/

Sorry cant post links, still new

In regards to your PRL, it seems that it is fairly old (from 2008) and is used for Sprint Data Cards. 60750 would be the newest data card PRL, I am going to try 60650 and see how it works out!

Also the latest PRL I could find 21086, if someone shoots me a PM I can give you the link to post, still new

^^or you can just go to the phone dialer and input *#*#4636#*#* to change network type
@mediocrebadguy
Hey btw do you now what to type in box that has "smsc"

An SMSC is just where your texts go when you send them, to be forwarded to the recipient. The field in that menu would be to restrict your phone to a certain SMSC, which would not be ideal at all. There is no gain from messing with that.

How old is 61085

I keep getting an error on that QTPS program when it finishes writing to the phone the PRL file. Some error that I click ok and everthing works as normal. (phone reboots at the same time)

So ignore that or not normal? Dont want to F up my phone.

The error that says something about nv something is normal just ignore it.

I want to try this but I'm not sure if it would make any difference. I'm currently on MIUI and I live in Florida - did anyone have a similar scenario and see a big jump in speeds?

I think it means it is supposed to be readonly(no editing), but it gets overwritten anyway since you still get you r new prl.
