Help Big Increase in Market Downloader Data Use

My data use has been running well inside my limit until yesterday when it suddenly rocketed. Onavo says that the Market Downloader has used 57.1mb but I haven't downloaded any apps for several days and up until yesterday had only used 11.42mb. I did notice though that the Kindle app and iSynchr had updated themselves but surely they can't have used 57mb doing that, particularly as downloading them originally didn't.
I have now stopped the mobile network from connecting to the Internet when there is no wifi but it hadn't been a problem until then, I had kept well within my 50mb limit. Does anyone have any idea why this may have happened please?

I know you can choose some apps to only update when connected by Wifi but can't find the option on these 2.

I have the exact same issue like you and it started about the same date. Market downloader has gone rogue and downloads without my consentement soemthing like 15 to 50 mb per day.
I have an htc magic, with cyanogenmod 2.2. I did a nand restore to a backup from 2011, did not help.
I updated the market to google play. did not help.
Have you found a solution for yourself? I am really speechless in this, even though I have been investigating for hours and hours.

Sorry I haven't replied before but I've been away. No I didn't find a solution but it's never done it again.

Maybe it was going through those auto app updates. I always disable it. I believe it's a waste of space and data download

Yes mine is disabled as well. After that one time it has used veryh little data, but I have now signed up fo 500mb to be on the safe side.

Onavo reports my Market Downloader used 300MB in the last few hours, hitting my quota of 500MB and causing Tmobile to slow me down for the next two weeks. And I'm not sure it thinks it's done downloading ... I'm trying to turn the darn thing off!! If Google thinks they are helping us by the big update, oops.
