Root Big issue...Need Help with with Rooted EVO

Have a rooted EVO which worked great until I needed more memory on the EVO. I used Move 2 SD (rooted) which transfered some normally un-moveable applications to the SD card. It transferred the programs to the SD and free's up internal memory.

The problem started once I rebooted the EVO for another purpose. Now, many of the screen icon's are generic and the Application Manager spins endlessly calculating (which then prevents access to move these 15-20 Apps back to the EVO from the SD card). The market also would not allow any downloads or uninstallation of programs with the SD card installed.

Also many of these SD moved App's don't show up in the EVO's apps list when the SD card is installed. Restarting the EVO without the SD card did allow Application Manager to calculate so the Application Manager but functions limitedly as the EVO needs to access the information and programs on the SD card for restoration.

Your thoughts, recommended programs to use are greatly appreciated.

I have mentioned on here before that SD cards are NOT my specialty, but since my fellow forum regulars seem to be sleeping on the job (or hobby?), I'll see if I can't help out a bit.

It is my understanding that moving all apps to the SD card is possible, but the apps will not work properly without some further intervention. I believe you need to set up dark tremors a2sd - some instructions can be found here. I also believe that in order to do that it is recommended you have a bigger/faster SD card (I am not positive, just sounds familiar). Anyway, once you have set up dark tremors, you should be able to move your apps over to the card and still have them work. I believe Froyo leaves some part of the application still on the internal memory of the phone which does not get accounted for when using an app requiring root to move other apps to the SD card. That is why you are having problems.

Now for fixes right now...did you make a nandroid backup before moving the apps? If so I would recommend just restoring that. I just did a little bit of searching and came up with this thread here which may give you some more ideas and may either validate or negate what I have told you.

Basically, froyo has the ability to move certain apps to the sdcard. This option must be enabled by the developer of each app. The downside is that widgets cannot be used for each moved app. Plus, some apps just don't play nice with it. It works by leaving part of the app on internal storage (it needs to execute from there) and moving parts that it can to the sdcard. As such, if you're missing either part, Android will see that an app is installed, but it won't be able to do anything with it. When you use an app like this to force it, it's enabling the option to move apps to the sdcard, just like the developer of the app could have. You can force this from the command line too. In any case, it gets very buggy once you try forcing too many apps. It's been known to do exactly what you're seeing. For that reason, it is not recommended. It's not letting you reinstall the app because part of it is still there. Does the app you used to move them have an option to move apps back? If not, you can also go to manage applications, then go to the tab for app on the sdcard. From there, you should be able to at least uninstall them, which will allow you to reinstall them, normally. Be sure to revert the change you did and remove the move2sd app, first. Beyond that, restore a nandroid backup to just resolve the issue, if you have one.

EDIT: Oh, and, yes, Darktremor a2sd is a much better option. It involves making an ext3 partition on your sdcard (native to linux) allowing you to move the entire app (not just part of it) to the card, then repointing the location Android thinks apps belong to this new location on the card. It's an all or nothing option, moving all apps to the card. It can only be done on custom ROMs, and you really should have a fast enough card, otherwise, you might have some lag.
