Bionic and roaming?

Shortly I am going on a cruise to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and Bahamas. Since I have never been out of the country with a cell what can I expect in roaming charges? In what ways can I use my phone (gps, text, data, calls, etc.) without racking up a huge bill? If there are roaming charges, what can I expect? Any help is appreciated. I don't want to come back to a huge Verizon bill!

There is cell service on some cruise ships but it is not cheap. I went on a nine day cruise and used my phone on Christmas day and turned it on once a day to see if I had any voicemail. My bill was $50 more. The best thing to do is call customer service and they can explain what you will get charged.
