Root Bionic (Awakening the Ally)

Airplaneplane mode hung huh, figuring its part of the radio service I would imagine that would happen
Good to know

I decided to make a logcat of the airplane hang. It makes no sense to me, but it might help you. I tried to make it as short as possible, but that didn't work well lol.
I hope it helps

bionic ally airplane hang - Pastebin.com
Good thankyou, I'm using log cats from project gretel to help as well.

I now got bionic to give 3-4 bars of service... slowly but surely

Quadrant scores
Velocity OC at 748mhz = 955
Bionic -------- at 600mhz = 935

I really enjoyed my experience with Project Bionic, and can't wait to see it fully completed.
As for your questions...

1.Installation was successful after a toggle of signature verification, all was smooth.
2.first boot was successful and very fast for having cleared caches.
3. I chose iida Home on first boot (and did NOT regret it)
4. Start up was suprisingly fast for a 600MHz processor. Faster than the first boot of Velocity, even.
5. I enjoy iida Home the most because of the fact it is a regular launcer (albeitvertical), but if scrolled to the side, a whole new, intuitive and visually pleasing UI pops up. Love ther tiles and groups, and love the animations. Very fast and snappy, as well. It's a shame its 2.3 only.
6.600MHz FLEW. i didn't even feel the need for Oc, so i didnt try.
7.Since all my buttons wokr, i found Button Savior to be unnecessary, but modifying it a bit to make it function more like honeycomb tablets would be a good idea.
8.I don't use Live wallpapers, as i dont spend much time on the homescreen, and iida home doesn't use them anyway. :D
9. i had one bar of service (though, this is usual in my room) and no 3g.
10.On second boot, the 3g kicked in, and worked normally.
11. No FC's or bootloops in my testing.
12 iida Home, for SURE should be kept, and maybe even consider removing Sony. Its kind of "meh"
13. I enjoy cyanogenMOD, because of all the useful tweaks and options it enables.
14. If those options were removed, i woul dstull love an AOSP 2.3 ROM that ran as speedily as Bionic on my Ally. EOL, my butt2
15. Bionic is a great project, and should be continued. This shows that even though the Ally is an old phone, with the proper time and development,, it can still handle the latest, and even fare pretty well. Its a great ROM for a great phone.

thanks (R)gocal for taking the time to work on it!

With the recent release of the master of droids...(bionic) I will be porting all I can from that device to my firmware
The infobar ui will be redone into a themed bionic system ui along with the new droid bionic system sounds and live wallpaper, adding a fancy transition, bionic bootanimation, some other goodies

*Givin the hard stuff a break tonight and workin on theming and wallpapers*

As you use test this firmware, I want you to answer the following questions and post them in your quick post so I know what to work on and what needs removed and worked on.

1. Was installation successful? PERFECT

2. Was first boot successful and was it fast or slow? SUCCESSFUL, DON'T CARE ABOUT BOOT TIMES THAT MUCH, SEEMED FINE

3. Which UI did you choose on first boot up? SE HOME

4. Was start up fast or slow? FAST

5. Which UI do you enjoy the most and why? SE HOME BECAUSE I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE OTHER, GETTING TO KNOW IT THOUGH

6. How was your performance on default 600Mhz? What OC did you try afterword? I CHANGED THE GOVERNOR TO SMARTASS, SET ON BOOT, NO NEED TO OC, MAKE MY ALLY UNSTABLE SO I DON'T MESS WITH IT, MIGHT TRY JUST FOR THIS BETA

7. Is button savior a good idea to keep in the rom or should a real touch panel be ported and/or created for the ally? DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS ABOUT, I'LL EDIT LATER WHEN I HAVE TIME, WORK IS IN LESS THAN AN HOUR

8. Which Live wallpaper do you enjoy the most? Which Live wallpaper the least? I DON'T USE LIVE WALLPAPERS BUT I'LL CHECK 'EM OUT LATER AND EDIT.

9. How many bars of service did you receive on first boot up and did you have 3g? NO SERVICE, NO 3G (RETIRED PHONE), WHEN MORE IN THE COMMUNITY USE THIS ROM FOR THEIR ACTIVE PHONE, I'LL PUT IT ON THE WIFE'S PHONE AND EDIT

10. How many bars of service did you have on second boot and did you have 3g? 2 BARS ON SECOND, NO 3G (SEE ABOVE)

11. Did you experience any force closes or boot loops? FORCE CLOSE TO SOFT REBOOT IN SYNC SETTING WHEN TRYING TO ADD ACCOUNT, WILL TRY TO GET GOOGLE LOG-IN LATER TO RECHECK THIS

12. Which UI should be kept as a default Home replacement in Bionic or should both launchers be kept? KEEP BOTH, SO USERS HAVE OPTIONS.

13. Do you enjoy Cyanogen? LOVE IT, I RUN NIGHTLIES ON MY INCREDIBLE.

14 If Cyanogen was removed or some features and a stable 2.3 system was built, would you still enjoy Bionic? MAYBE, BUT CYANOGEN IS A FUN ROM.

15. What is your point of view on Bionic? Should the project continue? I LIKE THIS ROM AND I THINK DEVELOPMENT SHOULD CONTINUE. MORE THOUGHTS TO COME... THANK YOU

A little fun fact: I flashed gapps and opened the market, after preforming several searches, I believe that the market thinks I'm running an old OS or something. Most the good apps did not show up. No sms apps, no titanium backup, no alt launchers, etc.

That's just for anyone curious about what happens if they add the market back.

...and no irssi connectbot. I'm really not an expert here, but if I had to venture a guess I would think that it had something to do with the build.prop file.

Correct. Its actually the 2.3 os. Gingerbread 2.3.4 actually blocks some of the rooted goodies like tethering, some backup apps, terminals
So anythings that's important that's getting blocked will be included

Maybe I can get the blur2 home working instead of the sony arch, which evers smoother I suppose.

Idk. What to say with the numbers since im using the application, but I have to say that this rom is one heck of a beast. It's so smooth. 3g worked fine after reboots. Im really looking forward to this. Great work.

**to those beta testing, no longer worry about the questions, just report what your opinion and performance was.**
The beta will continue untill I've gathered enough data and it will eventually go offline.
Good to here good things about this rom

Can you fix the keyboard light? I hate it turning off lol.
Are there any signal tweaks in this? I'm pretty sure it's holding a better signal in my house than Velocity 1.1
Blur home sounds good, not that it could compare to iida. But it is better than sony. I also like stock ally's lg home. It would be interesting to see again.
(There was something important that i'm forgetting. I'll edit it in later)

I actually was going to bring back the LG home but its not working correctly, I had an idea to retheme it and make it look and act better but thats another idea for another firmware I suppose.
If blur2 home installs and works correctly in Bionic, it will make an appearance.
Thats somthing Il add to the build.prop (keyboard light)
I added signal tweaking to the build.prop if thats why signal is better.

Rookie question... are there any problems going back to Velocity from this? I want to test, but I need to be able to flash back to Velocity rather easily as well.

There will be no issue using a nandroid to go back to velocity. Make sure you make one though.

The instructions said to toggle signature verification.

If you do a nand backup, nothing will be lost once the nand restore is made. Velocity and frunisher isn't harmed if you use the nand property.
**don't forget to toggle sig check to install the bionic_build.zip**

Tried 844 and got a reboot and 3G was back after bootup. Tried 825 and got a reboot with 3G after. Seemed to be stable at 806 with Bionic. 787 is the most I get with Velocity 1.1 which is still good for me. This was all with PERFORMANCE governor.

13. Do you enjoy Cyanogen? My first taste of it and I do like it very much.
14 If Cyanogen was removed or some features and a stable 2.3 system was built, would you still enjoy Bionic? Possibly. I've really been wanting Cyanogen to see what the hype is about though.
15. What is your point of view on Bionic? Should the project continue? Definitely continue with it!! Pretty awesome work you're doing here!!!

1. Was installation successful? Yes, and it only took half the time I expected it to.
2. Was first boot successful and was it fast or slow? Successful, took a minute thirty (I timed it)
3. Which UI did you choose on first boot up? Sony Arch, but switched to ADW as soon as I could
4. Was start up fast or slow? A little slower than I thought it would be, but pretty good.
5. Which UI do you enjoy the most and why? I didn't like either, they were... awkward. Again, switched to ADW.
6. How was your performance on default 600Mhz? What OC did you try afterword? Superb performance at 600. It actually bench tested lower when overclocked.
7. Is button savior a good idea to keep in the rom or should a real touch panel be ported and/or created for the ally? I didn't like it. I don't really like the idea of a touch panel.
8. Which Live wallpaper do you enjoy the most? Which Live wallpaper the least? (if any) Didn't look. I use zedge, that is that.
9. How many bars of service did you recieve on first boot up and did you have 3g?
10. How many bars of service did you have on second boot and did you have 3g?
11. Did you experience any force closes or boot loops? no... just fine.
12. Which UI should be kept as a default Home replacement in Bionic or should both launchers be kept? I would switch to ADW
13. Do you enjoy Cyanogen? YES!!
14 If Cyanogen was removed or some features and a stable 2.3 system was built, would you still enjoy Bionic? Of course! But I'd like it even more if it stayed closer to Cyanogen.
15. What is your point of view on Bionic? Should the project continue?

It absolutely should continue. I love it and the performance is amazing. I love the settings and how easy it is to customize it. My only mild annoyances were the default homes and that some apps were missing from Market.

To some it up, I'm impressed.
