Help Bionic USB Tether issue, WinXP SP3

OK, so I'm having an issue with the native USB Tether on my Droid Bionic. It works great with Linux and Win7. It's a non-starter with XP. So, I went to help, and I saw that you need to DL the tetherxp setup file. I also did a little searching and saw that SP2 and earlier versions of XP will have some more difficulty. So, I checked the versions on my wife's computers- both SP3. Excellent, I shouldn't have to DL the RNDIS drivers.

So, I proceed with the instructions, and I get ... nothing. The wizard says that it can't locate the drivers, and that my device may not work properly. Lo! and behold, it doesn't work.

So, right now I'mDLing the RNDIS files to see f that is the issue, but I don't want to screw with the OS unless I have to, especially since what I've read says that if XP is SP3 or higher I shouldn't need them. Is there another angle I can try?

Also, is the tetherxp file supposed to be really small? It's only a couple of K.

Thanks,

Mike

Not sure ATM (I'm on the road). I can check when I get back. My current workaround is to use PDANet, which is less elegant than native Tether, but seems to work OK.

What is the issue with 32 v 64?

Thanks!

Mike

Do you have a Program File (X86) directory on the machine? If yes, 64bit. If not, 32bit.

Don't confuse this with the Windows version - Windows XP x86 is 32bit, meaning there is no Program Files (X86) directory. Window XP x64 or x86-64 is 64bit, meaning there IS a Program File (X86) directory.

im pretty sure he can just right click my computer and it will say windows xp sp3 (64 bit) if hes running 64.

Yes but he was not at the computer at the time. This was a memory based question, as most people with 64bit windows OSs will remember having two different Program Files directories
