Help Bizarre reboot, boot loop issue

gretch

Lurker
Hi all,

So the history is I had CyanogenMod6 on my Desire and was using OsmAnd in the car with the car charger plugged in. The phone reset so I started it again, reopened OsmAnd, then it crashed again. It stopped on the HTC white logo so I removed the charger and weirdly it then booted. When it crashed a third time then it stopped on the white HTC logo and wouldn't go further, regardless of whether the charger was in or out.

I've tried removing the battery etc, but that made no difference.

I've now flashed back to the 2.29 RUU using PB99IMG.zip on the goldcard. This loads fine and all is well, but then every now and again it resets and sticks on the HTC screen again. Also I turned it off once to put my normal SD card back in, and restarting it gave me the white HTC screen. Huh??

Can anyone help please? I need this phone for work and having it die on me and needing an RUU reset (so ALL my data is wiped) is a proper pita.

PS. I've looked through the opther bootloop issues other people have had but haven't come across this issue yet.

Thanks.

Does it reset when not running OsmAnd? If so the phone could be faulty. If not, stop using the app.

If it happens again, try wiping data / factory reset via recovery, rather than a full RUU

Was the phone itself really hot that you noticed? If your using navigation with the phone charging (because of the temp rise just by charging and the raise because of the CPU going for it) they can sometimes get hot causing boot loops as a kind of fail safe so it doesn't fry.

You may be on to something, but I'm not convinced this is all.

My wife was being my hands-free so dunno if it was hot when using the sat nav in the car, but it was hot last night when it died on the stock RUU. However I have now just turned it back on and it's most def. not hot. And it's sitting on the HTC screen.

How can I tell if there is any damage to the phone itself say if it overheated and cooked something?

First when using OsmAnd and Google Navigator with the charger in (see comments about overheating above).

I have now had to go RUU as recovery was also buggered and goes to HTC white screen when I try to boot into recovery. Harumph! :(

But it is still doing this, even when I don't overheat (well, it doesn't feel that hot...).
