Black death screen?

I was wondering, is it mainly just Motorola that has been having issues with the black death screens?

It seems both the Bionic and Razr have this problem.

Also, does it happen more, less, or equally as often to those who stay stock vs. root?

I am considering avoiding Motorola next time, and one of the big reasons is this problem.

I know one person doesn't show the opinion of the masses, but one friend who has the Bionic and has never had that problem claims it's because he's not into rooting, and that somehow causes that problem, or makes it more likely. I know that since I don't do that, I would not want to claim to know such things.

Anyhow, just curious about all this.

I'm not sure if it is the same thing, but when I have to reboot my phone (way more than I should have to) it takes a full 2-3 minutes to completely finish booting, sitting on a black screen that is totally unresponsive. I once timed it at around 5 minutes. Verizon tech support told me this wasn't a problem, because I was the first one to report it. Hmmmm.....more people with this problem should call in.

I'm totally stock and un-rooted btw.

My Razr has been shutting down (lack of better term) and I have to reset it using the power and down volume button. I am guessing this is what you are talking about. It's happened on my phone 3 times in the last 24 hours. Probably a total of 6-8 times since last Friday. Tomorrow is the 2 week period that Verizon will let you exchange so I am going in tonight to find out what is going on.

Stock phone, no rooting

I had it with the Bionic Way too often, have never had it or any other trouble with the Razr. It's fast, it's bright, 4 to 5 bars reception. I love it!

Bionic always did it.had razr since release day and never had it freeze or reboot once. I am also rooted.

What exactly is the issue? The screen dies, or the phone freezes?

I've had one freeze where the touchscreen became unresponsive, but the hard buttons worked. Did the batt pull, everything is back to normal.

If I'm not mistaken, a "black death screen" is when whether at boot up, or just while using it, or possibly even not using it, the screen goes black, and nothing works. It doesn't seem to be off, but nothing works except a hard reset. It's not something I want to deal with.

Of course, I'll probable get a quad core anyhow next year, unless I get a 4 month old GNex by then, hoping I can still get support, accessories, and hope it can make it for 2 years.

I've been accumulating information for this on the Bionic form a lot of different people.

Make the obvious Razr tweaks (like how you do a reset).

I'm curious as to what data shows the Razr gas those problem? The bionic certainly did, but what evidence is there the Razr does?

I realize that this is an old post, but I can confirm that this is real on the RAZR. I never had a Bionic, and my RAZR just did this for the first time. Hopefully, it doesn't continue.

For the record, my phone is NOT rooted, and for that matter, there's very little installed on it, other than factory stuff...
