Help black screen after unlock screen

I have the droid X, and i wanted to know how do i install a custom rom on my phone?
i used zroot app to root it, but now after i unlock the phone the homescreen is black. I can't do anything except use voice command to load app.
any idea how to fix it?

What system version where you on? Z4 root is for froyo. If you were on gingerbread 602/605 z4 won't work and if you were on the latest 621 update then some extra steps are required to get rooted. So the important question is what system version are you on?
If your having problems with your phone now just do a battery pull and restart the phone again.
