Help Black splotches?

Well...just got my maxx and it is pretty sweet. However...I am setting some of the black splotches that people have reported on many of the razr's. A few down toward the bottom, and a few at the top. Not noticeable unless it is a black screen. Anyone else. Sorta bums me out!

Yea its a pretty well known issue with Moto's Amoled screens. Absolutely Ridiculous that they couldn't fix it by now!

That's BIG business. Moto probably had about a zillion screens left over from the original Razr project. And figured how on earth can we get rid of all these screens. I got it said one Suit, let's put a giant battery in the same phone and sell it off as the Maxx instead of adding the originally planned HD screen.

Sounds nuts...But that's a pretty good guess considering that early reports had a 720p screen on board for the Maxx! Jeez Moto just loves screwin us! Oh well, it is what it is...My Maxx will be here tomorrow and I'll be avoiding dark rooms as I am nuts and will 100% talk myself out of liking the phone because of a flaw like that..lol

This is not a Motorola screen - this is a Samsung screen and it is a problem with how they manufacture the new SAMOLED screens - GNex is affected too.

come onnnnnnnnn!

I've owned a few phones with both Amoled and Super Amoled Technology. The Original Incredible, the Fascinate, the Droid Charge and most recently the original Razr and Galaxy Nexus.

Sorry man, the only phone I've ever seen any sort of blotches on is the Razr.

I've watched plenty of YouTube clips and videos on all of em, both in well lit areas, and fairly dark areas...Never before did I see any sort of blotches on any of the screens until I owned the Razr. I was also one of the early adapters on the Forum to own the original Verizon Droid Razr and reported it on here rather quickly within a day or two of owning the phone.

It has been discussed and you were here when it was happening - NEW SAMOLED - none of the old phones you mentioned has the NEW SAMOLED.

GNex has the same problem as the Razr, check GNex forums.

I've owned a total of 3 Galaxy Nexus's ... None of them have had any Black Blotch issues similar to the Razr's.

You are a lucky person then. As I said, users of GNex reported the same splotches and it is a fact GNex has them.

Could you provide a source for this? Its news to me.

I mean I get what he's saying! But every one I know who's had the Razr has brought up the blotches...and nobody I know that has the NEXUS has said anything...

So while it may be true, it looks to be more isolated then the Razr screen blotches.

Whoa! I'm SO glad that I'm the only one! I've replaced 4 RAZRS for the same issue! I could not, for the love of me, figure out why my phone had all these blotches when in dock/dark mode! It was DRIVING ME INSANE! I'm waiting for my 4th replacement today. Verizon actually allowed me to choose ANY phone of my choice because of this issue. But I decided to stick with my original RAZR/White because I LOVE how smooth the phone feels. I thought about swapping it for the maxx, but reading that the maxx's also have the blotchy issue, I'm going to just stick with what I got--ugh! This screen issue is really frustrating and makes the phone look cheap. :( sigh!

I really don't get how people can "just live with" the FACT that Motorola is knowingly putting defective screens in their phones! If it was just a first run problem, it would be understandable. This has been a known issue since the first Razr's, and obviously nothing has been done to remedy it. I'm sure they already have a true HD version in the works, and it wouldn't make financial sense to toss out the millions of junk screens that they continue to put in their phones. I am an Android devotee, but it is a fact that Apple would NEVER distribute for sale a product with such a glaring defect. And to claim that "that's just the way the new SAMOLED screens are"?! BS. Samsung put together a crap product, Motorola bought a bunch of em either not seeing the defect or not caring, and the consumer is being treated like a chump.

^ Exactly. People need to put fanboyism aside and realize that an issue like this is unacceptable. If everyone continues to rabidly defend Motorola just because they shelled out hundreds of dollars on a phone with a blotchy screen, then Motorola will continue to sell phones with blotchy screens.

I could keep going because there is dozens of posts across dozens of forums about this. Its is a Samsung issue not a Motorola issue. It is byproduct of the process Samsung is using to manufacture thier AMOLED displays in thier newest generation plant. It has nothing to do with fanboyism.

Alright. It's Samsung's defective screen. So Motorola willingly put a defective screen into their flagship phone? How is that in anyway okay?

How is it OK for Samsung to do it? They do it because its not considered a defect. Just like older plasmas had bad IR and burn in and LCD's have mura. Its a byproduct of the manufacturing process.

Either way, Motorola and Samsung had better get their act together. Again, I prefer Android, but if the biggest names in the business don't give a crap about attention to detail in their QC, then iPhone might be in mine and many more Androider's futures! Just sayin...

I agree. I also had 3Gnexs and none of them had the spots either. None of my Galaxy phones or any Samsung phone for that matter had them either. I used to own the Atrix. I think the Atrix had it to. But now I have it on the Razr. This is not a Samsung Issue. This is Motorola not putting the Amoled screens on there product the right way, hence the glue that shows through from the bottem of the screen.

Regardless, Its not a super huge deal. But I pay for quality. And that is half quality when you notice the spots. There not supposed to be like that at all. Thats like buying a car with 3 wheels.

The screen of my maxx is so black when displaying black (at ALL brightness levels and in ALL lighting conditions) that I can't hope to see any "blotches". Either I can't see them or I don't have them.
