Help blank space on homescreen

Ive got a widget problem on my play, ive had the youtube widget installed since i got the phone. With the most recent update it disappeared and now there is just a blank space that i am unable to place any new widgets on. I just get the message saying there isnt any room for thr widget?
ive tried uninstalling the updates but it didnt do anything. Is there a way of resetting the homescreens? Anyone got any suggestions?
 
May seem a bit obvious but have you tried dragging to old space into the dustbin?

It may still have somthing lingering there even though it looks empty.

Just a thought
 
Yeah ive tried that but theres nothing there. Whats strange is that when you move a widget around there is usually a yellow box that appears to show you where you can place it, but on the blank space I have the box turns grey?
 
Sorry folks I do not have an answer for this but have replicated it here and I am working on way to resolve this. It appears to be a glitch in the most recent update to the Youtube application; however I cannot confirm that at this stage. I will come back to you once I have a fix but if anyone else come across a solution please do post it so that it may passed on to any others. :)

I've had the same problem, but I've solved it. :)
I have SE Xperia X10 (Android 2.3.3) and in the Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All (tab) I have an "app" called Sony Ericsson Home Screen. I've deleted all the cache and data of it and the problem was no more.
The only negative of this solution is deleting cache and data resets the home screen to original, so all the shortcuts, widgets, etc. are being deleted. You must recreate your own home screen. This also applies to the menu, unfortunately. :(
I think on other phones there's a home screen "app" also, so you can do the same I did.

Thanks, kinda gutting as yesterday i spent over 25mins arranging my menu lol might just live with thr blank space haha good catch though
