Blockbuster on Evo

Ouch so the movies like 4.00? I will stick to Red Box, sheesh.....Thats kind of like Pizza, who pays 18.00 for one when so many pizza places offering them for 5.00 each

Well, a really good pizza is definitely worth $18! But, I do agree that $4.00 is a bit high since you can only view it during a 24 hour period once you start. If it was like $4 for 3 days, I would probably use it.

I downloaded "Grown Ups" 35 minutes on 6mb wifi. Sound is absolutely horrible, you almost have to have some ear buds to be able to hear it. With my ear buds it was great but on a trip or flight or what not you will probably use ear phones anyways. Movie selection is so so. 4$ for a rental, not too bad. I don't mind the app considering it was free. Will I rent another movie? Probably not, I don't have a need for mobile movie viewing. Is it cool? Sure

I do not want this or any other apps that came installed on my Evo. Is the only way to remove this by rooting the phone?

Considering the OP...

> Has anyone tried the Blockbuster app on the Evo yet?

I was beginning to wonder.

I downloaded and watched Inception from the Blockbuster app. It took about an hour to download with 12 Mbps WiFi. The movie was 2.5 hours and it worked perfectly until about 1.5 hours in. At that point the movie would just stop and go back to the beginning. I eventually had to fast forward just past that spot and then it played the rest of the movie without a hitch.

Overall, a pretty good app.

I was wondering about the quality. I signed up (which included credit card info) but feared that by doing so it would create a monthly fee charged to my card. I looked on their site for how streamed movies to smart phones were charge for, but didn't find anything. So I sent them an email and they responded promptly assuring me that streamed movies are only charged for on a per movie basis.

Actually I felt the quality wasn't that great. At parts the movie was so clear I could see the wrinkles on the actor, and other parts I just saw some big blocky moving blob (actually this only happened when there was a lot of movement in different directions in the scene and I have no idea if that would affect the quality.) Overall the quality was pretty decent, the movie is still very enjoyable, just some parts might suck a little bit.

^^
if it was during lots of movement in the screen...
then I would lean towards the phone hardware being not able to keep up.. I would guess more the GPU. The evo is known to have a weak GPU.

First post - Whoot!

I am downloading my first movie to see how well it works and I will repost...but so far SEVERAL movies say NO HDMI OUTPUT SERVICE AVAILABLE.

Any ideas on this?
I expected to connect to my TV or laptop.

Also - any ideas on what kind of files if we BUY a movie and can we mount and transfer to a laptop.

I think I counted 3 people saying blockbuster is better than netflix because you can take it to any blockbuster... You do realize they are a dying company and they closed nearly 1000 brick and mortar stores in 2010 right? Enjoy dropping off at the store while it lasts.

my dislike of BB comes from principle...
in this day and age to expect to keep getting $4.99 for a movie rental is ****ing insane. they made their bed and deserve the bankruptcy. gotta change with the times.

that being said....wheres my freakin netflix streaming app! lol

In defense of why anyone would go with Netflix, I've been with Netflix since about six months after they started up. I went with them because Blockbuster was heavy into their policy of charging late fees. I'm surprised BB wasn't still charging a rewind fee because they were fleecing their membership in every other way. Another recent issue with Blockbuster is that all of the local stores closed down here. So the benefit of a local store that BB had over Netflix is now gone.

In my opinion Netflix has recently gone downhill -- charging extra for Bluray, not negotiating competitive release dates, focusing most of their efforts on streaming when their online movie selection is like 1990s nostalgia, etc. The most ridiculous thing theyve recently done is release a streaming app for every OS except Android, claiming that it's Android that's limiting them. Yeah, because iOS isn't limiting for developers at all. Uh huh.

All this being said, my eldest son (shame of the family...haha) has an iPad and Netflix is absolutely incredible on it. I'm wishing that Netflix developers would get a clue and put out an Android version that works just as well. Supposedly their streaming library is going to become more current very soon as they de-emphasize the mail part of the business.

I normally convert my own movies for playback on my phone, but I'll try the BB app and report back on it.

Does anyone know if you can delete it when you connect the phone to the computer? I see it there and keep wondering but I don't want to mess up my phone either!

sorry.. you can only delete if you ROOT your phone. then you will have a few different options to delete apps.

Just canceled my netflix after I saw BB offers...I mean for 2 bux more a month u get releases 30 days before netflix plus you get games & can return to the store instead of waiting...This trumps Netflix, plus most of the streaming is older movies. I really didnt use the streaming much..netflix would be awesome if u could stream new releases & BB didnt have the 30 days up on them but still no games...

A few things, there is a lot of new releases that are straight to stream. The biggest problem with blockbuster, is they just don't have that many movies. Which is why I went to netflix. Netflix is not prefect, but to be honest it works for me. I really dont care if I get the newest releases. I just add them and they come when they come. To be honest at any given time I have over 200 movies in my cue. Do I really care if I get the newest now? Not really. If I have to see the movie now, I just go to red box and rent it. But to get the rare movies that are really not offered anywhere, netflix is great.

has anyone considered just using a slingbox. that way you get to watch any movie you want when you want it. without having to download it. plus you get your locals sports and you can channel surf. i do it all the time. slingbox rock's
