Blocking SMS

Hey everyone, had a quick question regarding blocking SMS.

First off i am using Google Voice as my primary number and do not want to receive Texts with my old number so i do not get charged for texts, as a full proof plan to ensure this i wanted a SMS blocker.

I wanted to know if the blocker would just block incoming to the original number not the Google Voice number, and if there was just a Block all setting, or maybe somehow to disable receiving texts, like in the default messaging app there is something about auto-retrieve?

Before you question me, I am on Verizon and i'm pretty sure they count incoming texts in your bill :S

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: The auto-retrieve is only for MMS, so disregard ;)

Go to verizonwireless.com, log into your account. Click the "I want too..." button on the top right. Under Plans choose "Manage Service Blocks." Here you can block premium messaging (my setting) or all text messaging. I'm not sure if this will still allow GVoice messages through, but you could give it a try.

"Premium"? So i would have to pay a fee to block messages? VERIZON!!!! ;)

Anyhow thanks Pup for the quick response.

I was wondering if i could use that to block them all, and it seems like the GV service is totally separate from that of the phone, as it comes in under an entirely new number, i think i will try this message blocker and see if it works. Thanks again!

No, by premium I mean I turned of messaging to shady companies that tack fees onto your VZW bill for stupid stuff. My 17 year old stepson went nuts getting ringtones and was "subscribed" to a couple of these "services" at $10 / month (not affiliated with VZW but appeared on the bill). I simply went online and clicked to block that from my account and the charges stopped. I didn't even have to cancel the service with the third parties.

The option to do this is free.

It won't block SMS to your GV number. You will have to use the GV app to access your SMS though.

I just figured this out now, and the only way to get messaging to show up on the default messaging app is a work around, a guy made an app but it is extremely buggy still and needs work. So you are forced to use the default GV messaging app, and i would be happy with it, if it didn't create a new thread for people each day.

The other way is getting it to forward to your other phone number, which i dont want.

Yeah i just did it, i blocked all SMS and i still receive GV messages, currently saving 20$ a month now haha! With my Grandfathered unlimited data plan still in session there is no reason not to have GV especially with the always having 3G/4G LTE.

Thanks again you guys! :)
