Help Bluetooth 1.2 compatibility?

I have a O'Neal Element Motorcycle Helmet with Bluetooth 1.2. My phone doesn't find this helmet. I have tried everything. I called Sprint and they told me that my phone only supports Bluetooth 2.1. Does this sound right? Is there an AP to for Bluetooth 1.2? Thanks for your help!
