Help Bluetooth audio 'hiccup'

I've been having a weird problem where if I am playing music via bluetooth and my wifi is enabled but not connected, I have random hiccups/pauses in the music playback. If the wifi is enabled and connected to an access point, I don't have the hiccups/pauses.

Anybody else notice this?

I just installed a bluetooth adapter to my car stereo and I have the same hiccups -- half-second pauses in the audio -- it happens about twice a song. It doesn't do this when I connect via aux cable. Would love to find an answer.
