Accessories bluetooth discoverable

before getting an htc i was using a sony w995 which my car bluetooth kit (nokia ck-7w) would pair with upon turning on ignition
on the htc do i need make it discoverable each time i get? i normally leave the bluetooth on all the time so i drive safe in case of incoming calls when driving
should it just connect automatically as its paired?
is there an app to keep phone discoverable?
