Bluetooth dropouts

Is anyone else streaming bluetooth audio on a regular basis and getting the occasional hiccups during playback? It's brief and relatively far between, but annoying nonetheless. I hope it gets fixed in Gingerbread. If I had to take a guess, seemingly the bluetooth streaming process is not being given a high priority such that background operations can interrupt it. Though it happens intermittently when my phone is not being used otherwise, the drop outs can be induced if I wake up the screen and go into the browser while listening to music. It can also been virtually eliminated with a reboot, but over time will come back.

Yes, I have the same issues. I also have issues where the bluetooth will arbitraraly decide that it doesnt want to connect to my car bluetooth. I go into the settings and the ability to use that specific device with phone and bluetooth audio is unchecked. I re-check the boxes and it works again. WTF

This happened to me yesterday with my BT headset. I actually had to delete it from the phone and re-pair it to get it to connect. Very strange and arbitrary behavior.

I've had the same problem with my bluetooth headset. Every week or two, I have to unpair and then repair the headset in order for it to work. I also have occasional problems where I can hear the caller, but the caller can't hear me when I'm talking over the headset.

I had Plantronics replace the headset. That didn't fix the problem. Now, I'm having Verizon replace the phone.

EDIT: I'm using a Plantronics Voyager Pro + headset. What headsets are everyone else having problems with?

Wow, I don't have a problem with pairing. It has been paired since day one and every time I get in the car, it connects without having to dig into the menus. Same goes for my headset which is a Plantronics Explorer 390.

I wish I could say the same. Phone #1 I already told you about. Verizon gave me a replacement phone that had an issue with the screen and would drop the pair with my Plantronics Voyager Pro + headset as soon as you powered off the phone. The phones Verizon is handing out are "Certified Like New". My guess is someone dropped that one. Verizon has now given me a second replacement. I've only had it for maybe 30 hours. So far, the bluetooth connection seems to be okay.

I'm curious if this is a common problem with multiple phones or if it is the 1 in 100 that has a glitch.

Bluetooth headset (Motorola S309?) will stutter while I'm surfing and web pages load. The bluetooth signal seems to drop out every once in a while for a second, and sometimes the audio that was paused during this second or so seems to play a little faster when it comes back, like it is trying to catch up.

I've had to re-pair the Motorola headset a couple of times, but not my Panasonic Link-to-Cell home phone system, or my Pioneer AVIC car stereo. But I have noticed that the audio during phone calls on the home phone system can be increased by using the audio volume rocker button on the phone itself. If I can't hear callers, I have to go to my Charge and turn up the volume from there.

The Droid Charge has compatibility issues with some or perhaps more than some bluetooth headsets/car kits/etc. I've spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Verizon tech support and even Samsung tech support. I've had 2 Plantronics Voyager Pro + headsets and 3 Samsung Droid Charge phones. Phone number two was a dud (probably been dropped or something) and would loose the pairing as soon as I turned the phone off. The other two phones and headsets all exhibited the same symptoms.

There is an occasional problem where callers can't hear you, but you can hear them. There is no way to know when of if the person you call can hear you unless they are actually on the phone at the same time. Imagine leaving a message for your wife saying you'll be home late, or for a client moving an appointment and all they hear is silence. These problems seem to grow until the phone disconnects itself from the headset. To get the phone & headset connected again, you have to delete the headset profile from the phone and go through the process to pair them again. This whole process repeats every week or two.

It is my understanding that other bluetooth headsets have similar problems connecting with the Charge. According to Verizon, they won't pursue a fix with Samsung unless they get enough complaints or see enough information in threads like this one. So if you have a problem like I do, please let us and Verizon know the details.

If you have a good headset that actually works properly with this phone, I'd like to know that too. I may need to buy another headset.

We were having the same problem with my wife's Charge where it would lose the Bluetooth connection to her car. We seen a force close with Pandora when restarting the Bluetooth, so we uninstalled Pandora and she has not had any trouble with the Bluetooth connection to the car.

Hi Gladstone,

Thanks for the reply. I don't have Pandora installed. So, that's not my problem. Actually, it's not my problem at all. This is a Samsung issue.

Here are my questions for the group...
1. What bluetooth headset, car kit, etc are you using?
2. Does it work properly with the Samsung Droid Charge?

Please let me know. I'm going to take this info to Verizon.

I spoke with Verizon tech support maybe 4 days ago. They said there was another update coming for the Charge at the end of the summer. This will likely be the Gingerbread update.

Does anyone know if getting Gingerbread would improve bluetooth performance? If this is a dumb question, I appologize in advance.

I'm using my Charge with an original Aliph Jawbone bluetooth headset and it works flawlessly. I have been quite happy with it.

I'm using a Jabra Extreme headset. I find that any time network usage spikes, bluetooth has a possibility of stuttering. This makes sense, considering that bluetooth is nothing more than a different kind of network connection. I have some problems at work, where I have little to no signal. It is very minimal (especially coming from a Droid X2), but happens from time to time.

I have not tried to renice the bluetooth services, but that's something that could be done to see if it helps at all.

Forgive a dumb question...

What does renice the bluetooth services mean?

I see that you're rooted. Could/does this have an effect on bluetooth performance or compatibility?

"renice" is a linux command to change the priority of a running process. Process priorities run from -20 to +20. Standard priority level is 0. Anything negative gives a process higher priority. Positive numbers are lower priority.

I don't believe that being rooted would change bluetooth performance. Even with Voodoo lagfix, there shouldn't be a change, since bluetooth doesn't really write to the filesystem.
