Help Bluetooth Headset

Because the headset socket is unreliable, I have paired my Bluetooth headset to Tablet to listen to radio etc. My tablet is WiFi only. But switchover from speakers to headset is not functioning? I have checked the Bluetooth settings and they appear correct.
What am I doing wrong?

Have you checked to make sure it is on media audio in the BT settings? What icon do you see next to the volume level when you push the button to adjust it? It should have the Bluetooth B Symbol instead of regular speaker symbol if paired And connecred correctly.

In BT Settings it shows paired and connected to phone audio Bluetooth headset?
Not quite sure what you mean by symbol but the nexus volume adjustment shows the normal speaker symbol ... and of course adjusting it adjusts the speaker vols since for some reason the sound is not getting to headset.

When BT is connected and working correctly the little speaker symbol to left of volume changes to "B" (the same B that is the BT icon in the notification shade) to let you know that the volume is controlling BT volume and external speaker volume. Also in the Bluetooth settings for your device you should check media audio not phone audio to use for media audio. If media audio option is not available I think it means that the headset is nor compatible to use for media audio.
 
I have disconnected headset and re paired. The pairing is successful but still not functioning. It's a Jabra BT2020 Headset, a few years old so maybe it is not compatible though since it does pair I would have thought it would function OK.. Will try to check with Jabra Support.

Can only find connected to phone audio which is ticked. Though I can see a full volume below on a line marked with ! Maybe this is the media audio?
Headset works OK I tested it again with Nokia phone.
Also I can get it to function on tablet with Skype but its not that reliable. I have to start Skype, then Blue tooth and then headset! This seems to be an android issue not yet really solved. Maybe its Skype that is causing my other problems. I will have to experiment more.
 
Just got this reply from Jabra:
Actually all of our units should be compatible with any device that has Bluetooth version 1.1 or higher. Take in account that the Jabra BT2020 does not include the A2DP Bluetooth profile, which is the one that would allow streaming stereo sounds through the headset.

I am clean out of ideas and would appreciate any available further help.

If it doesnt have a2dp profile you cant use it for media audio (radio,videos, music etc.)like I said in post 4 if media option is not available you cant use them for media audio. They can be used for phone calls only. There is one more option I believe, an app called " bluetooth mono"or something like that. Download it on the playstore, it reroutes media audio through the phone audio output so you can listen to music and radio on non a2dp bt headsets like yours. Other option is buy a new set of bt headphones with a2dp.
 
Thanks for all your help. Since I was only concerned about mono (not stereo streaming) I didn't think a2dp profile would apply.

You're not wasting my time at all, that's what the forums are for! I have been helped many times here myself. Unfortunately without ad2p all the headphones will play will be phone calls, but bt mono app should give you exactly what you want (mono streaming). Good luck and do let us know the result.:)

Keep in mind a BT headset which supports AD2P natively will have MUCH higher quality audio playback.

I recommend Plantronics headsets.

Understood Dave. But I only use it for news and the like so the earpiece Jabra does the job. For serious stuff I use internet radio or my PC with a good wired headset.
